Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.+ ^1 x# V- Y) n3 W0 V' B3 M

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes./ U$ S, D @& I, ^3 @
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
# h$ u1 e0 c. A1 R• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.# k# \. T) L( Z, A- W1 g
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.& A' S$ J U0 k. @
• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. * \( n9 w p7 X

• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1 ?$ v& x; Z$ L8 Z( O$ `• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.0 m2 {9 X$ l' N8 L# {4 m
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability % s$ T* U4 x; c2 H
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).9 e* }$ E; D: N1 S5 e' x) c
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.* T5 M0 J$ r. o: R
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
; g# d- c& j+ T# b+ F• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) 3 N4 i2 U7 R: [% [
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 4 z5 d, f8 \/ f4 e* `9 P3 q
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
8 l3 r+ U; K* _& `% {1 hvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
! B2 o2 ^6 k* M2 J, w3 r' r• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.3 f3 {% v. _) l I& _, h! ^
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week + ^1 K/ o% T$ r
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly! N# J. Q) t) S
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
