1 |4 X) Z  `, g8 Z4 l0 c! S: P. V- y- ^Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.2 ^- n& Q, M5 B) g

FUNCTIONS:
/ x. y( U( b2 t1 f•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.6 N% ~* G; P! u7 C/ x$ C
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
& t; z( [7 r/ V. h•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
5 o2 _- k0 S1 k4 j% x•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
$ ^& v1 C9 b1 _$ @* Y) O& c7 h  l- t% Rand traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
# r7 B  M4 l+ `# y•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
) Y3 k! v8 q# n' {% S" }to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).' ?# O, g; K) k+ `
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
( c+ b0 K1 x5 E; V' M5 o2 ]•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
5 V0 Z$ J" m3 r: i" ^  ~2 L2 F: I. U•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
" F; p* y5 i+ P) o" @showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 8 f! p8 N; ]9 y( k9 a0 J5 d
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
& ^3 j% e3 f0 Jvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
5 q& _* z  X, |3 t/ e! q/ ^& k" j•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
3 X$ p8 e  K" F/ X•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
. L8 c1 a* ?% [) p* d) [: r% A+ PVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 3 M8 X/ K: ^- i
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly4 E# d/ N: `! R! E1 m6 Z
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly* Q/ }( s2 z$ \) R2 D
2 w# |1 ?4 N0 h7 ~& C
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 . s8 n# c4 o4 F5 }8 K9 h
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
