- ^+ J- ^& y& o7 W+ f! cEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

8 N% j, C2 ^; p; i8 h6 AFUNCTIONS:
( H( j# _$ v1 C; ~8 q- X•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
0 E6 x2 C6 C% A$ a: b0 [5 W- i•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
; e8 @! z) ?0 `•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
& E; I0 _9 k0 x' g- ~•        Provide excellent customer service.

* ?, T$ l% \/ |' fJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
- G/ l2 {0 j5 w) C" h•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
4 j+ K0 ^: d5 z9 t2 y/ n/ mto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
7 }# h3 E8 v1 G' a# p•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
, P' c) ~$ ^) `9 U9 ]+ W7 o•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
$ E* N2 R$ w) X: z& avideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
) j9 b) c4 p$ p# }•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
