Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:

• Collect proper fare, issue transfers." |1 G% e+ i" h( Q, ?5 S( e$ h8 T7 r
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).! P) u6 P3 ]* z- u f3 P
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
$ M6 v. u# i) S/ D4 M$ C5 d• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.4 l! {5 t) G( s
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ; o+ k* E0 x, C5 [, y
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. . A# b$ A# y. x" l3 _
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
. U6 Y$ F1 F( m; L1 ~ C) \4 L( Mvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).+ K& u# b6 t4 d5 C
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week / {- C, ]5 g) n- x2 y3 s* K
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
5 ~5 J5 s a/ G' j, t# ZThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly5 r* i' _. I% l( ~8 y

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
