: p; i( R/ P8 E3 rEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

) |7 x) p6 ^5 s/ w  i•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
0 w* H  k1 i+ A$ H# a0 F9 Y•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
) p9 f* N$ g: [- z•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

+ _& y; A' q1 k5 Y- ]2 C•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

( d( d' {3 |6 S% r3 o' `JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
1 `; Z9 N2 e, y9 w/ ~•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
* X6 L6 ^$ ^: K/ {' vto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
1 O5 \3 S4 g7 B/ @2 v; o4 i% S•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
0 Y" }1 _, j, _3 `' H8 j" u•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
. x, Q; b9 R) `! S7 T•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
% I! x: U; T$ n1 H9 I•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
6 P$ g1 y4 [1 U: N, N% J) Q: ?Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
4 U  g$ }  h. M; [0 ]Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

% ?5 U7 l6 v: T; P% }% P# m# b! MSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
