Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

* i2 G  ]" J/ W( q; b•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
. E/ w/ u) W8 w' K•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

0 o6 i8 }2 p% G; O5 nJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
$ s: L7 J9 V3 B! T•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
' K* h( r7 i" x6 d- y, A+ a•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
8 c+ j6 k, n! q# h+ F# H/ o5 l•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
/ v, h# [9 t. I, y" ~showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
7 z5 p$ e7 f- N3 F1 tvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
+ o8 r- m& a3 R4 G•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
+ V( G1 V9 e; |; Z8 B% G•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

6 O3 k6 x& z' qVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
) T5 B. Z; |, J3 P& E, A9 OTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
+ S3 M' \6 ~( R- WPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
/ C7 S- R1 G$ |7 V& z4 O  ^$ LThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
