! e2 r- |7 l$ Q. H' SJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  4 `; x5 ~3 i7 o; \4 D( ^5 P2 k' b
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
) z& b9 v$ L& l0 I: P- n2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
7 {" J( }# {8 H+ A, P, p: ~Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
: B$ w4 j- X1 _. X, {$ x4 g+ m( ?Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  7 r3 X( h2 I2 o! S# T
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:, k& T1 C1 u+ l8 C0 \1 C

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20005 U$ f2 i2 T1 y8 n1 z$ x6 F
6 ~; ^+ L* e6 e- D% G) ~
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.9 ^( k+ `# J8 ?/ s, G/ I

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
2 V$ K7 Z9 ]; n2 D& c# aadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
8 \. L$ f, g0 cacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.: o) I6 M, F! N$ I
$ k- k1 p" L1 P9 s/ X
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
* n+ c/ m  k. K0 {- I: H# Mreferenda.
0 t6 X. ~. q/ l$ I. h. s' w5 }' W
# _+ y" \7 A( Z, f8 Q6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  , j8 |- }' A* T  k$ ~, t
parties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
# q' I8 g4 N# ~! N8 nreferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  0 d5 c6 A5 {9 e2 c$ d
Bylaw 2000.

; J2 d% X( }+ D9 r' c/ h3 r  s/ g10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  ' ^- I/ W) s- v1 Z! F. E( p
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
5 u. W0 v8 B' T7 x  d: R- _from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
: B4 u& h. K. i  L. t9 Eof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.9 S; V* S$ Z* |& t5 m! u3 M1 p

1 ~& H2 d# ]) C0 V* v11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
  x! c9 T4 `( `% ithe course of an election/referendum.
+ ]% `; [$ m7 v' ]4 K
7 ?' M" J4 [: g  |. d( V" z* ]12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
( \" O+ }; a' Z0 L1 Vprocess is in place.

" E: ?. i% h( U5 n! U/ d13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
" g" Y- [" b9 ~# V' @; qof activities and recommendations.

* O3 E9 W/ I6 d# n9 R$ {: N14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
& S7 _& s! ~6 \4 e* v5 ~of campaigning.  G* a7 m' T' C; C) c5 V

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  3 Z' G. u% ?8 a
Administration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:& |, l+ p' m  n
1 X" @, y; i$ O
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
9 d  R! `2 f4 Z8 K! T+ P# Pfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  & u% q) y" W* L2 q0 ~4 o7 r
Union member.
0 b! M) C$ }  r
7 t$ T! T: h, H2) Must have some experience in student elections./ m8 _# u5 Y% E- y2 d4 N6 a3 h1 W4 s

+ W9 v+ V/ b  r7 T5 L3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
9 K) N/ q* g/ `3 `% many of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
( v! X' O  n4 m7 L  e5 awith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required." |2 E! x% u" b1 P( N) l
