. @) V* _; _; H. L; X; K# mJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
$ |8 K# k0 ^; u9 L# i) w$ ]6 vthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
& U$ \9 g3 h5 V: j. {( VCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
; |( z* q+ @( s5 D: `+ b' U- x' wStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
! Y2 h) g6 S9 U5 e8 F' Qyear following their appointment.

# j. ^& J2 y- }* KDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

2 ?% l: \1 V1 M5 O/ a; N1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

  L% }/ S  A. x# {# z; ?) X2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
" \! J# b' M7 j# d) p+ Dadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

8 I3 k3 _5 L, A" w* Q" M6 K+ `- M$ S. ~6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate

8 l0 X& S2 M  t; N7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

' g; H; o5 h4 L* Y6 q! t To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

0 q3 V7 f0 l3 a10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
0 _2 M$ u4 b0 q* {; o+ t) _8 f7 aminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
% C8 q7 z, H' f5 cthe course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
$ X) d' ~$ z3 P5 j# z% Aprocess is in place.

, n: {' E6 A+ ?4 n9 V13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
  z# y) b4 Y% I7 iof activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

; x# N1 d' t( l1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
$ I, ?  s7 N  y, w% ~$ M' A/ c! ~0 iUnion member.

2 D  ?" m, j2 U/ I3 d2) Must have some experience in student elections.

. ~: P$ m+ b' l# B/ l3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
( M/ W" O, ^/ x' n. e6 N* tany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

staff, students and the general public.
