Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

6 V9 r7 ?+ O, c/ g3 [( ^" e. W• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
' ]6 c" ]6 ^% q0 i8 |9 t! K5 |• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.0 h6 D w% N0 O6 G
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities." h# K/ \) ^3 _* h4 X
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works! _9 i4 `% z- A, j8 z2 e
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. 7 c0 ]$ ]! b. [3 C$ Y+ U" R
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.( v3 x1 ?7 X6 |/ y: w' V+ c) @
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.$ r$ @. i- j! @
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
. R, x' v! g4 P [) E( e• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

& v! K6 U" T6 ~( k7 Z• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services; d2 u' ^6 _" Z9 r1 k7 s9 u# [
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
! X! m. J$ i3 h* m. l1 n• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.5 v4 B5 w Y: G
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws." G) M# G! k6 _7 w7 I
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
: m9 @& i6 h7 I; K7 V# B• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

6 W& g7 m3 I: E. y$ f• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
( ?' \( n! s; O6 ?( R1 n5 x• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
6 B& V/ `+ r5 @9 D' p• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.9 t& A# P1 \7 O* Y6 d
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
) J" C" H$ x/ K" i# y, l• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.0 q8 ?& E& h1 h7 e
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.( D: R" l) m9 {) V \' W7 a+ U3 f
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.+ C4 W) x8 O6 A4 S) t9 X
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
0 Q7 x" f3 i" ?# OSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City., X+ C9 @9 f* b# `4 b4 ^
