Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
1 |  M$ T7 K! M% ~* G) `+ L0 ^•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
8 l1 D+ m; g# l! ^. R7 e•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

9 o- V5 c, U/ a8 E•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
+ x2 R6 w. C! A" {( w, A- w•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
6 a  o6 `+ Y0 T; C. s•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
" {8 r' {! x2 M& c* g1 e•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
8 g( n( t5 N7 S2 I/ bRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
( s# J1 X' D2 w0 M. I( m" W•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
) k, }! D' m8 g2 y$ @•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

) F& y; Q5 m+ G•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
& G' j, P: m1 H3 A  O9 x% |$ o, c•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
" _/ d# `6 w/ A; }# L•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
5 M7 U2 P( Q; U) z- E•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
  g  ]+ b* ~1 f; JSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
