8 F' r( |6 O( N! u+ F4 c: ISpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
& n5 n: u) Y' P: B! D6 I3 u•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
9 d( }5 Y5 ?( _' k•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
) M" o! w. a* r& I3 a9 w6 x•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
! z8 ]: C8 s* e•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
& `8 P  N# w! }9 H' z•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
6 ^1 {0 o9 n. l4 f) `% N, `•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
, i" O+ I# v0 Z' r/ t•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
  A6 B# Z! \7 V% r# h•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
# H' B8 W0 s7 {9 B2 d% b•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
( C8 v9 b5 q! q4 o+ N5 [: m* U•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
3 g) D" G% w7 a•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
0 t6 `9 N7 m+ B& D. f•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
! i7 n8 k+ _* t- M8 Y+ i•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
: w' X! [6 W: n0 B•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
" w3 w; r% z/ d% T2 F1 ^+ l•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
2 G1 t# h  f. O; W3 J2 i. i•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
" o) X+ I' ]1 E5 J, E( H& G•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
