4 _: g$ Q; i: n5 |" b# lSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
# R" Q% x2 b& `- c+ N2 i- aDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works. {: W5 U+ E: {% y
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
% {5 h; D+ p& W6 e8 S• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
+ U7 x/ `* i4 i# F! k, x4 w( O• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

8 E1 C. E- G) |& k* V; e• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
. C' ?- n) z5 T8 _( C3 J• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders./ |0 k& d7 U( T9 f) a: l
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.' @6 I. U; |( N4 b3 w: _) j
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation) q/ J# O. d2 V
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
R( u$ p) O, s! j• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
* ~: q4 \9 c8 S• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
j' V$ D& I& i& _! C, U. Y• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
% z/ ~% u1 f& a. Y5 C$ [• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
) R4 F: E& {5 P0 y9 \• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
3 A/ ^, L% j$ u5 N5 J0 S• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

Job Requirements:
% u0 c( R! M( u" K4 c; w8 X# X• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
" z3 j3 H7 V, I• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
/ ]. z4 s+ D) a4 x: G. T% G7 U• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.* ^% V% H# M5 u* X; o' d; y
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
7 S4 W( Q, L+ P8 {2 Z• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.9 r0 u% x- _1 s4 N
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
. P+ q& |- `7 J& hSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
