+ c( _  ?0 y; V- d, g/ R; E5 A6 QPeople who live in downtown business districts in Canada’s largest cities generally pay less per-square foot than people in cities around the world and enjoy shorter daily commutes to work, according to a recent survey done on first-time home buyers by CENTURY 21. 1 w6 p& |' N, o0 g% B( h
# ^# L6 e6 e! }" i
Calgary ranks sixth most expensive of 31 cities surveyed around the world.
# }# T) W: a9 p; S, M1 G2 m- c3 c$ I/ A; l# A) ?% t8 _
The cost to buy in Calgary’s downtown is even more than settling in Toronto’s core which ranked 16th in the survey with the average cost running $209 per sq. ft.

George Bamber, owner of a Calgary-based Century 21 said it’s a sign of a city maturing and becoming more like Vancouver or Toronto where downtown is a place where people live and work.“You just get more real estate for your money outside of downtown,” he said. ) o) _3 S. k# o: T+ X! B) K) e& v

5 R9 b: {3 z, a+ P9 iStill Bamber said the interest in downtown living only seems to be getting more popular — a sign Calgary is “getting to be more like a big city.” ( g' @  r  L- w: n, ~1 g  _

( v2 d8 E9 o, M6 `' ]% X5 K8 lPart of the attraction is affordability but also people wanting to buy in to a certain lifestyle, Bamber said.

The survey showed Vancouver placing fourth most expensive at $577 per sq. ft. while Edmonton was 10th most expensive at $322.

In Calgary, a typical first-time buyer would choose a one-bedroom, one-bath 500-sq. ft. apartment in Mission or Connaught priced at about $250,000 and a 10-minute drive or 20-minute walk to the downtown business core and the Calgary Tower.

" Z- s2 y5 C8 j) TWhile those looking for life in the suburbs and a better bang for their buck typically see a significant cost savings.

不是真的吧。我朋友在纽约,他说他买不起房子,他住公寓,房租一个月2800美刀,不过据说很奢侈。比起来,爱民顿还是很便宜的,不过可能占工资的比例就比较高。我朋友两口子年收入税后将近30万。

一点也不奇怪,最近一个世界范围内经理级房屋 (executive house)市场调查显示 (见上周环球邮报):# l9 ^3 V4 k/ G1 \) b. n
世界排名前十位最贵城市中,加拿大名列第一,独占四名, 仅次于伦敦(第一),纽约(第二)。

这数据是真的, 我在电视上也看到了, 可是统计方法有待考证.

也就是说edmonton的房子和东经,new york基本一样. new york的中心two bedroom房子没有个50万买不到, twowhouse起码上80万...edmonton还没有到这个价吧?# J+ R% _* g6 o) X" @! K

这房子是new york Manhattan最便宜的two bedroom了, 其他的都上了50万. 要注意这个condo是co-op, 也就是说房子没有卖的权利, 要通过condo board调查买家,经过的同意才能卖.
