EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.

\/ y i) R& t2 v9 OThe two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above. w2 W1 z; |' j8 ~6 u% K6 j; h

“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.; k% U0 f; d; ~5 e9 W6 k

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.# Z0 ]# v, ]2 w- ~

Southgate, a 36-year-old mall located south and west of 51st Avenue and 111th Street, now has 130 stores and services. It is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, based in Montreal.
