7 n+ c2 ?# k2 l! @! Y" K# f8 n9 B1 UDetective Fred Fiss said that sometime in February, the suspects got their hands on keypads from a Wendy's on the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton and replaced them with altered machines.2 n# _0 e! e6 K! v( ?' L* Y
& l# s, W" M. J+ }: B+ QA Bluetooth chip inside the bogus pads then transmitted debit card information, including personal identification numbers, through wireless technology. The crime group then used the information to manufacture fake debit cards.

One arrest has been made in Quebec, but investigators say that they believe the person arrested was not one of the major players in the scam.

/ {3 v8 [& o! {* q" z# uPolice were alerted after Interac banking officials noticed hundreds of Alberta debit cards being used in Quebec on March 7. They matched the cards to ones that had been used at the Wendy's in Edmonton.' \. s, S% T4 S9 o$ S

Fiss urged people who used debit cards at the Wendy's during February to contact their bank and check their bank statement
