I'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project., [3 a9 g% C! v
In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community
' W$ W( z, ?. TEngagement Training.

We can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,
6 S. Y# y& V8 y8 v c/ I(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood) T% H( A1 H8 H/ T- u$ K# m) ], P
groups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work: n# i6 \' J/ f) e$ C' a5 Q
together across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy b$ c1 `! H. B5 c3 B. @8 H
Communities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.

3 v6 l2 l, h8 Y. }Set on the remote Papua New Guinea Island of Bougainville in the South
' d3 j) R, o9 ^# pPacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years+ Q2 N' ]6 j' g; }3 a7 ~" T8 {
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter
+ z; H9 F) V# V7 i8 ], wconflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the9 m1 ]. ]) |- y% f1 E( d
international community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:
( A2 G% ~* s' t( ^% d6 k2 P/ `% J( nthey come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter
|+ u$ |( J1 \9 pIain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the( j$ T& k3 a4 B% P2 F$ F6 I$ a
island and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed; h. N) V8 n( u6 A
international peacekeeping operation.

This beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their3 z% n$ g; s8 S
own story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people6 n) _$ K/ m6 B6 k& r4 c; s) S- ~' l
who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV
9 {6 @3 q; {. n/ @- j: x1 cscreens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and1 x6 |' W r/ E2 q+ E) l
Afghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems4 U* S+ [7 Z# [- R3 U2 {; P( N$ m6 B
improbable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs1 w5 B* E+ s* u! N9 [
and music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!
2 Z9 W: T' ?. V* A Z3 n' p7 L2 \0 U. ]
According to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the
# S k% b* F* ksuccess of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole; W& S+ m# h" g a/ @- `
process, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the1 J& S5 V5 L: X1 r2 c1 Y; z
hands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.8 u' y u0 s8 Q
Also, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,
