　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

　　One single white immensity.

* ^, J- l9 I5 W$ `6 u　　The Yellow River"s swift current

% H' {9 V* V, I$ r, k　　Is stilled from end to end.

　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,
% U" f% f9 l7 y/ _4 I" Z
: O2 q5 F1 q4 {$ S" k* C　　Vying with heaven in stature.

% ]5 K0 b8 I  Y% w3 D, @　　On a fine day, the land,

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,
' J3 {; j  h/ g8 @: M
　　Grows more enchanting.

( ?$ e" o4 e0 g6 N　　This land so rich in beauty

. Y% V* m$ e+ e　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.
( M, Q: k) Z+ ?. A1 G7 C4 p
　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti
& f( _+ F( T  g  [: p0 z- l2 z% M
" ?8 T5 o. m. g　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　Had little poetry in their souls;
( |3 j; N9 _) g4 v5 X　　And Genghis Khan,
8 v. M, L: N" Q* c3 ]% z# H. t' E
　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
- A% b$ J$ f" N4 O# M
5 v+ N0 F; s, W; y/ T　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

　　All are past and gone!

  m6 g7 j7 g8 `3 x2 H5 U
: V( ]. }$ i' l- L& x3 s: r0 g0 z  ]　　Look to this age alone.
