　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
9 w1 p3 r8 b6 h# N3 j　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

" S& w' Y4 O! h4 R4 y3 g+ i. Z6 F　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

! d) Z3 d$ ^% ~/ f2 q3 u　　One single white immensity.

　　The Yellow River"s swift current

　　Is stilled from end to end.
$ [; x* I+ y3 q: {: |; _
) I$ C# }/ g+ F. Y$ M　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

; u" x  A. E, S2 V4 S" U. Y& @0 E　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

  x- z- E5 s: T( L$ P7 s* L1 Z　　Were lacking in literary grace,
% U7 q: @3 u, i- B
　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu
! G$ }& X" y- M# c( M
9 P. A( D% z. v$ \5 [　　Had little poetry in their souls;
( D: j' y2 v/ s　　And Genghis Khan,

& B4 Z# z: A2 ~　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
8 H! p  v* c  P1 u
' G- S6 Y0 q0 x: t, v　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
- r5 M. r) H) g
　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men
9 k5 W0 T4 B- c
; }2 {6 p- D' r4 m0 t+ b　　Look to this age alone.

　　俱往矣 数风流人物 还看今朝
