Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall$ a' c! e6 C' } h8 q! x% F
not do any of the following:
5 f; F# w& B }4 [' K(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor# K% v. ?6 a6 c2 F5 G( o0 m
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle; M: g: U9 B0 `8 O1 K
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor( @; A: q9 F" ^$ s \; I1 N7 K
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;: Q! B+ ?5 G7 O( p; p
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,: i/ k, x# s1 G& }8 I! e( I
permit another person
- ?0 a4 ]# f7 D1 L7 ?(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or7 C8 O2 q- n! I* L3 E* [8 A" H
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
; d/ L1 ~1 t7 y' Wunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;& Q7 O( j/ m. M$ [% n' N
(d) give or lend a financial
# \) ?* w* ?4 ]5 B* N* q5 q& B4 xresponsibility card or a copy of it* c8 t# k% J" k8 u; Y' B; i% D
to a person not entitled to have that financial
" o) C0 c1 ?9 W1 Bresponsibility card or copy.

% N3 v$ I% T5 H. P& H) @0 ~# t) UIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway0 k2 H1 t' \4 Y$ N' n
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of; g- O+ m# n" v
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
! X$ X& R* a. |) n6 |/ _- v(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is# b1 A2 g! j1 n2 f& ]9 J: V
not an insured motor vehicle.0 |4 F" y' Q+ B2 y" {+ I. w

. D1 u( D# g! ^2 R% NAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the9 @) ?9 z2 }7 J) P& L) K) H+ K7 d: Q
Insurance Act
4 Q+ n( q9 V* w2 Yby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
, E* G% ]( J% v/ ], j7 Loutside Alberta.
/ K* M% b! W: v(4)
: `- |: r2 B3 n$ c, R) AA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection/ `5 L* T4 q/ d/ i2 u
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
0 I+ X; e* J5 O$ ]0 E4 K(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500& ]$ @ F5 e& W3 f3 N
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to- Z7 Q" u' v( P
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not# ?/ P- j+ T/ N' J+ T0 Q) [- A* d
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
