Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall0 ]. X, X$ @1 z7 m" Y, q
not do any of the following:# _$ K" x' \* c6 m+ t
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
/ G* i. ^) ]8 {# {, Dvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;& I7 I s8 ~' O* K& `4 S" @
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
7 t* X& K* x% M* c) ^9 o- Nvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;. V, x" c" W I) D3 R1 H
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
]& z; c$ U2 I2 }2 K5 k* E3 o) Kpermit another person0 S1 j+ l, [8 y+ r# @' c
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
, {3 T& W+ o1 T4 K1 {5 ~(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
( y% H. j+ W2 L2 h0 \# X4 e+ [unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;! H, z/ w, X- s, a$ j" ?
(d) give or lend a financial
G( U. O2 h8 gresponsibility card or a copy of it+ h+ ]4 g) I7 Z, Q
to a person not entitled to have that financial
: K; S' ~9 P; Q, i6 nresponsibility card or copy.2 ^( K' p9 Z9 M! J

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
1 i# D1 ] G4 u" mwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
1 [1 U3 j+ j! X! n" a' H: L" {. q! `) B% Vthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection7 ~6 c" S7 R0 x( m
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is, E/ j1 [9 c' J+ ^6 D7 A9 H
not an insured motor vehicle.

& t3 U& X. M6 N5 \) G' x6 g* X! kIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this5 p9 E8 h9 u6 a
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this8 D/ E, H: v" _
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a) P# x* ?9 D, E2 C" g
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
( f: a: w% B, W' u- w# rInsurance Act0 y: }3 m5 ^# Z4 h+ a8 e
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy- x3 L# l: V7 P
outside Alberta.
1 l' q" x0 M2 b8 X1 H(4)) R% x4 A+ g5 u
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection* {# m s+ t1 ], d) }
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
- A5 A7 ?/ h% k- }' V2 y4 a- O(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
\' e( ~+ r% u. T* Uand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to& N e! D1 s% Q, p1 o
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not2 X: B. \- H! a. U! o; Y6 K; u
more than 6 months

4 m6 k# {# u9 Q6 \Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
