7 E) C) I1 t) M" v& ]. O0 o

: p, a2 `/ T! N9 Q$ G/ U; H! a- L        1. I couldn't care less.
( c6 f8 t' j$ V7 k  w  R* ?5 _1 t: A9 N% r) p
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:   n/ r* _" J6 U8 s9 k1 x

  O* f/ l6 i/ T( X  人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
, t3 w7 x" B1 z4 t0 n5 f& D* n2 w
; {( W% {' m: u& e* m  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
5 N9 i0 d! x$ g- e" x- z, x& h. m- B( @  ?4 {# s
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) ; l" ?- V# l% V0 Q8 p
3 g2 b: f6 u+ G) l  t( ?0 j
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
7 `3 C2 I0 P, q( p) P1 K6 j# B
& U, a+ E- k: D& F8 V9 `; t!
6 R; R% T- i! @& o0 K/ E
5 j, z( R1 U" F! X) @" l& h  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 3 g4 S; j, M3 L7 V1 U7 k' P3 ?/ A

Yes, you do(care). 0 T6 A; a% S4 Z" v! Z

5 ]4 w" d# G+ B% V/ T; g3 m! R! n# x  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
9 T* X8 y3 p9 E$ e& ^# J7 r
4 s3 S  l% [  ~2 P  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) . _* G' v* \1 X$ f; S  v2 _3 N
/ y, _, p3 ^( Y# m4 h
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
, a- \+ @9 G# P& B7 H
8 b2 H( A0 [3 s  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. ! O" k: K. m% d1 O( D' b0 u, O; m

" p( A+ p' r: ]6 r3 k( v' o  但是老外为了自尊,不愿强调自己的错误,所以很少人说: 0 F4 c; D& e( s8 U

) Q8 i# N3 n& N' P' o* P& R' Y  I couldn't be more wrong.
* R0 x5 k3 v6 R% o
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) 5 _! m( d- m- {/ l# u3 b
, Y# L  Y( z1 G2 Q/ t( @& O
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
4 Y/ Z& d0 s' h* u+ A+ _
, B3 k+ D* i6 I; I/ {9 c! U  2. No bones about it. $ \$ q) v3 E% _2 j% L, |( L
" V9 b1 C; R6 a6 I% E& F' Y: c* ~1 i
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: ! a+ }5 P- J* q, M+ V& O7 R
9 u; M4 J; x6 ]" w( A
  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
3 w  Q0 s2 u2 W# @9 V% n
; ]  x6 C: {3 d+ v3 h  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
  C/ N! K9 |  S
/ r2 ^) d9 l( j7 X' B. @  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
" |: v& D. m0 s) a
+ M; p; \8 b  y/ X: Q* ?8 Y  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
$ f5 Q5 J! T8 _" Z# t' W. ]  O, F3 f! r4 ~( B! s! f
  3. take it on me! 0 W  B% B3 i% N+ C. \, v: ^9 c5 U
; A; f; U9 _3 {3 n, J( ]9 k
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。 @- `& j: z. v. H  ?& C
! M; E4 x0 \9 N1 [! _0 O
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) : Y1 C7 y# ]" O: E  G" k% u

. T; E9 L; ]; e6 U6 H& S  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." (餐馆老板对我说:“尝尝我的甜点吧!”) 4 D* R* e$ a; n) |7 C

8 C1 C% G& @/ \  }  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) & Y, t- d; @+ U

6 B0 n+ F, u# `9 `9 [5 M7 F  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 , O. D( j$ E) g0 g

9 K) ]7 z8 X# [: N$ B  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
6 u* q+ U) D6 t7 b+ E3 @& H6 x8 \6 K7 I. R& |- D* L; ?( W
  4. I am from Missouri.
' _- x" l0 D  j: H+ l/ b6 H% j  M  z4 |  K
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
( k& H& r: K: q6 |
# j) U, Y8 z3 t  据说这句话所以流行 (尤其在美国中西部) 是因为美国一些名人都住过密苏里州,包括 Harry Truman, Mark Twain, Walt Disney 等。后来老外不轻易相信别人时,就使用这句话。(也有半开玩笑性质) 例如:
* t: Q6 r, p; e. j/ k! n
' P" @' T% M  ~& d, B9 O% m  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. (他是来自密苏里州,所以不容易说服他。) 8 b& D, y9 J5 }2 |! z

2 z& t0 O+ ?  r  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) (别愚弄我,我是来自密苏里州。) 4 [8 U0 U# I6 Q/ }
' `2 |/ g5 t7 k$ |
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. & L0 Q; i$ Y" k7 i4 p6 |

' p: A8 ~  I6 u9 ]1 F( w  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri.
