Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution/ V. `& U6 D' ^7 L" H7 ^
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color/ \* l+ w% _/ y" g1 c' l/ P' V
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
" R6 H3 I3 i. v$ Z' S6 Fin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
1 I* x- J( @& S) I. \ nallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject- @3 F! H7 O7 ^4 k5 @' }) ?
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography6 r+ b: d# m1 j4 s& ~8 R
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum& d5 F! a$ ~/ }0 y
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was. d0 f- S Z: e& F$ `$ J/ j. e
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
1 d) W" V8 _( U/ K4 |8 Hconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
7 E$ i m) c- G7 d* N; @6 [) x3 ?& Pbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,; f4 R' R, C9 K e- P
thanks to the D800.! u& y7 E- t: c1 e0 y' G
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,* O( O: j) i1 O# \: T' @* e
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic j# i. a* `2 x8 |; ~
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces y( s* F* k, b+ s* ?) h) m% B3 Z
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a2 C4 A3 d' n! l/ e, G
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as- @$ ]2 T. h. J% E6 X
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.: |0 ^, G K* {6 D# H
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor1 _# m8 {% G0 F) j3 ]
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
7 W5 C2 u+ j- Oeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while( B0 T0 B7 |- `2 p
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
' N+ k! P, w. l5 k' _/ Scameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
: H" L2 R/ d3 g/ _in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
# X9 v8 z* v/ wprints and video.
! J8 F, f: `4 C% m0 u; w- hTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is- o: j2 O- n1 U. \
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models- e1 j' t. G6 a( x
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using$ i" q+ j1 G1 _4 `9 }$ P8 m2 m
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first- m; o$ Z; q& i% R, s+ i
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
6 r' ]/ Y$ [3 p$ tlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of/ P/ K, J, X4 k& G, H8 o$ s
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I+ a2 j, L5 v1 [) C- z6 K* Z& A. i. s: @
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as2 Y, @7 }& Y" |3 u2 F0 v" r' c
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse- u' m7 b7 z% y/ E
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
8 F! ^* N* j; Y+ P! I9 ttremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the0 q/ j, E4 ^% Q8 V
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
7 a1 j0 Y0 o% d6 Tis that now I will think differently about the images I make.
$ F3 H z9 n: O5 {6 v: iAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,6 g6 ?: C* Z! c8 j( a* m, j, P& i
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal4 Z- W& P, j" n& G2 b+ Z D9 J4 @. N
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for
; w! ^8 s1 m% w4 B9 Y2 }the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital

now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions( J- X1 j6 |, C5 K" z' `
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior
# f6 \/ [) {* N) \7 m* S$ S) ?quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
1 \" D; n; {$ F2 Zarchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
2 r4 N9 k7 v5 y$ Q7 Q0 E3 [# W5 bperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly) Q6 h* G9 G' i# L- ?! T/ |
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility+ \. G2 B6 k3 E, F
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional9 `2 P7 Z, W9 T# w
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality2 |* q+ ^7 B$ X6 W* H+ m3 q: Q, A
