T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
. X8 J/ B) r; E8 uAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
+ K% Z2 w/ T9 Z! d) J( I" D& ?opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on & x. d: b" G& r) H: c
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
1 ~; c1 i) }; P+ P; iand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?& e# j4 L2 k1 d  Y/ U
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
" }7 T2 V. U8 _2 n0 f& _1 W1 Y4 q! Z/ j& p9 Z' r( T
These activities will enable youth to:
* D( j8 W& A% Y  Q( ? Explore personal interests in arts and recreation. U5 y2 G! q9 k! x+ E: Z4 r9 J# w6 h1 y
 Learn how to access community services and programs
' d1 a2 t: I  V4 E Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills3 q# G+ H8 F) W3 U3 p
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.& n/ z- Z  P4 ^% B% G0 P1 N$ @
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
, J1 w& ]" C& ^4 D                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
$ J. ]3 V6 ]+ g* i0 Q* {5 x0 `# b/ ]- ]
Who can participate?
. g3 I: z/ w8 ~* i+ c3 nAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
" i/ g2 T2 P. G, T/ ~5 A$ ~$ ~: d, x0 c
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?' Z/ A; Y$ J1 O8 V/ t
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

0 v/ k4 J7 {" F, f* VVolunteer’s Duties:
2 ?9 i7 o  S; s% w( [& D4 [$ u' G2 p" [( ]2 n! x( l4 B2 Q" H
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
; [0 k$ ^9 d, `7 \: l  }, R Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
, K4 h8 b5 v7 m# \+ B6 w$ G. e Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities. m! {2 d0 j# O
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions$ I1 v8 V7 ]/ Y1 W4 K& Q
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic# H7 @; P  v  @6 S
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips$ ]* A- s% Z; v- K# h
 Assist in program planning" f( h$ W! P" K, O# T
 Be a role model

Volunteer Commitment:2 l( _: Y& M- G- B2 n* e5 F
4 f/ Y$ I+ G, W9 r1 w
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)4 d" j. A5 Y: o1 N' z/ f( D- ~
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
) q  Y7 ?2 |+ N2 i* z' s" g. `* ^; j- U5 b& B/ W+ n: ?' ^0 V
Attitude/Skills Requirements:

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator- E+ N) ?" [! c( F
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
) t. A9 _6 a3 k- \: l A team player
4 e; L/ {/ h6 z Able to work independently with minimum supervision; |0 F" j! r$ [) A+ j7 x+ I
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families9 m0 d( T+ B2 b" s# W  P
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
/ B: x8 e- d! C# M) f
