T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
: p/ g6 `; g# x' E$ Z5 `4 sAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 3 Z0 ~0 \  A7 g
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 8 A9 ^& T( i: M) g
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
) o1 m  q* X. G  u( c5 ?and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

" L  k! L! Y1 D- ~What will take place in the sessions?4 ^4 }, k- o# T! [' i, V  t
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
% x3 c$ J- k+ m+ [* l( L$ s  s* g8 d& N4 ]; S
These activities will enable youth to:
% ]) z7 `5 h4 f- `1 _3 d2 J Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
, t' b" A9 O5 M Learn how to access community services and programs  z, j3 x3 H+ z* G1 c. I
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
# A6 R& T, w6 @9 e Identify personal leadership strengths …

4 ~1 B8 @+ m% C) x/ J2 s. qProgram Schedule:
7 y! ^" A0 V% _$ \# b1 T& nRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.3 ]/ C& M1 C& Q. U% I9 |% n
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily$ y  y" [; k/ g4 h
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily2 Z7 {& q  f  v$ s9 d

" {! ~3 S+ _+ k- L$ c8 @$ OWho can participate?
! e. g0 q' V! x+ x5 Q+ {- E8 {Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.; z7 t( g  I: `2 C

% O# L( ~/ B6 L# b. H7 {: JWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?, k# k* L5 m4 Z. n1 ^
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.. Z. A' Q" I8 m3 y/ K# H
( _& S: ^# a  L2 L1 u; W/ A, ^

; h% j0 W% C7 y( a" ~6 i8 f/ }1 u) B; X5 {/ jVolunteer’s Duties:- i0 R" }( ^6 ^+ _# H
) H+ y( ]6 G  u6 u$ w
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
% ^& }( f0 u7 `2 x! t7 i7 s( z; c* x Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development ! u+ T' x/ Y& h' D
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
% }. K- G! @. N9 B6 p Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
: B( R8 `. @+ k+ v3 j, w- i# q Research activities related to the sessions’ topic7 Q/ L9 u7 ^* S$ N2 O( `
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips6 k. E7 I! o) `
 Assist in program planning
' X6 P! j9 [$ a; W2 W Be a role model

4 }& z0 R3 k, j3 h% TVolunteer Commitment:
# y6 Q* k/ t/ C0 K8 X, p  Q6 W& _
2 Y( O! D( Q/ |/ }# S On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
6 V/ p! _8 J4 f% f) ] One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer# Z6 D6 k4 [5 n& z, x& v. d' ^5 S( |( p

+ l3 f8 w" K# M6 w: BAttitude/Skills Requirements:

& c7 S: n0 B% R; D Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
* ^0 R. d  D7 W, b* H3 a4 ~( e1 e Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program+ s2 A6 l# }% C' `  s+ `+ I
 A team player/ O4 O( m# C2 z+ p3 r& ^. X
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision& e1 s1 G9 I4 X
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
3 O1 q- E9 P$ P) G9 k9 d Willing to work with youth including youth at risk4 [2 O; U- I5 ^* P' f4 K) X
