T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
7 d/ W/ G4 r. K8 vAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 0 q9 c9 \/ Q1 h
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
+ A8 _; S9 F- W, W% y7 `* yinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
# Z6 S6 o, }! {0 L4 o. F* D% F- ^and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.$ W2 T9 |* k7 D# _1 p1 k

Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.0 o+ K' i* P2 K6 ^: ]& J
" m$ J3 U$ Y1 e- z( p; H  I9 O
These activities will enable youth to:# }+ x2 c' V7 S8 n- `
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation7 @: {9 I1 _" w4 J6 i' K4 @: i
 Learn how to access community services and programs
0 [9 f! L/ Y; j# n7 i7 } Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills  `6 T9 D+ l; ]" x) [$ X( h
 Identify personal leadership strengths …, F( q9 x; t1 c9 v; E

Program Schedule:
" Q6 ?  e, |/ h+ y/ D5 y, @Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
* G8 E! }% {/ p- b7 N/ s9 h& _Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily% u& V7 n. G8 ], E" z
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
1 y6 Z1 D6 |0 q+ p9 H+ ^" ^
% P# V! i. E5 [' R: iWho can participate?" w% \6 ]0 |. ?6 M7 S! b
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
5 S6 K" X% {2 Y# j8 RIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.& z" V" C6 B* X" p* W& H

" W+ e4 W- H% U" u
/ o' y: G! M, _2 w( RVolunteer’s Duties:" {0 P6 f2 n8 c! W9 J
0 b* s4 ]8 e. z: v% O
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
+ S% _0 \( n' c0 V! k. d( P Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
0 \8 g' Y# a9 _5 ^ Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities- M) b( n  n6 E: z. v/ c( K
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions' S' l, k& a: \, R$ W
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic; x0 ~' j* N* p* ^
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips" C$ g, A8 |* K
 Assist in program planning: G% Y, b1 O( H, O+ M
 Be a role model! a# \7 W$ g/ ^( d# y% L

8 z. m( y; {4 N6 gVolunteer Commitment:$ [- W( U/ v# G/ ^/ T: [

' r0 O; h- P1 J! b1 _ On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years); z) M/ z% n7 l8 f- v# u+ n
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
, ~% O0 E# i' G" A! h' c. N& E5 L% {% d. i% y% [
Attitude/Skills Requirements:

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator) }0 s# t* G3 j
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
4 x% r7 S6 O3 W. y  W8 h A team player$ \$ |" ]# X. a
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
$ z0 W- C, p, r% T" Q: `! ^4 ? Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families" g  X2 t# u0 _, Z/ y$ [( w( j
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk( \+ U: Z: p* S) u/ G) v* h
