1. It's cool:cool 是青少年(teen-agers) 常用的字,(有时也用 debonaire)% {- w4 ^6 r4 T3 T+ Z  m* V1 I

(可指人或事物)也就是 something good or acceptable;situation is under control;being calm, gentle, courteous or good-looking;meet teen's standard.
) w2 n2 R6 A& Q; S1 w) r3 p, `& t
' d7 }6 g$ [% y! o: f) A( ^  That's cool;he is cool;this is cool.
" A6 g3 s0 g6 d7 X+ L& R$ f) Y9 ^; S& ~1 d* l) _
  Skydiving (或surfing) is cool.(跳伞或冲浪运动很不错)
2 n; r+ Q4 ~; _3 b% y/ a' ]& p! M; r8 l$ h6 j
  主词可用任何人称的单复数 (I, we, they 等),动词可用 verb to be 的任何时态 (is, was, were, will be, have been等)。
* G$ v0 h# L) D" z9 J+ l3 z2 f" t# {
  She (He) was cool in the past.7 Q6 |4 ?! Y' A; l: X4 P) A4 l
5 ~! C$ z& x: C* A4 O* e
  That's a cool T-shirt.(好看的运动衫), y) A+ z1 J4 J9 C

7 s9 Z" P# q4 N- J2 g  He (she) is a cool person.(文雅礼貌的人)
3 t/ E5 p+ R4 V+ |
* v( x; i/ D& K0 s" ~/ Q  但是如果说:Are you cool?又是指「你冷吗?」(cool = cold),可见 cool 当口头禅或俚语时,多半不用在问句。假如说:
' m0 O3 b" [1 \- L* E- a. M
1 @' {: @* s' O+ Z" `" N/ j5 W4 X  She looks as cool as a cucumber. 又是恭维语,是说她很 calm and charming; not
) L! l9 b# j5 f4 I+ v% W2 A6 ?8 L: ~: Z9 [* ?% j
  emotional.
4 h: d8 B& f6 t" Y
+ N5 B0 q) h+ o. r' r  (注:许多华人把 cool 译成「很酷」)
/ y1 l# ^9 g, R$ |* a
+ G) n2 y! ?2 E5 d  2. Are you trippin'?:trippin' 这个字,是由动词 trip 演变而来。 这个字是现在分词当形容词用,是指行为异乎寻常,也许受到吸毒或喝酒的影响,而显得神魂颠倒、奇形怪状(to get high on drug such as LSD),也就是说:要不是受到药、酒的影响,你为什 显得这样古怪呢?(Are you under any influence of drug or alcoholic? Why are you so crazy and bizarre?)
9 |, N4 W+ J4 I* [2 T; r" g, v
  They are trippin'. (= tripping)1 m' T4 S  C5 \8 l& {: _

/ s* X. I* R$ U% O; A1 c) x  She (he) is trippin'.! c. L( w/ W! s  E  I3 E

' X% R  w4 Y' s1 c' M. M  Mr. A must be trippin'.
9 U% D) \& j  J6 t& x$ i- ]4 \3 O
4 G' z3 x. V/ L9 D2 [- C& t( J; O# {9 Q5 N0 |/ s2 }
  3. He is a nerd:nerd (A person always buries his nose in books, but not good at social situations.) (IQ = Intelligence Quotient ; EQ = Emotional Quotient) nerd 可用复数,动词也能用其他时态。
1 B% k6 u/ \) W4 ^1 y/ x* l+ u
3 i6 H; k1 F8 s! U& m% ?( y2 L  He used to be a nerd in high school.
: r/ z: P' S# w# [! T$ t7 b6 e! P. g* t! x# ^
  Many Chinese students are(或 have been)considered nerds.  u2 ^$ E2 j7 ]8 t1 b" G' `
" T# s" S+ M; l$ R' \2 C
( M7 a8 J# K5 J1 u" Z/ W+ H$ C5 k8 r1 {$ v! l2 G
  He is a computer geek.
& ]; H( n  O) ?6 D
  I don't like him because he is a jerk.% c" t3 H& u6 z1 R. p

- g+ n( N  t  p# A4 p  v  也可以用复数:
! ]5 A( d8 Q; s: D9 \2 |, ~/ M5 Q+ y7 o0 n# ?/ s
  Many jerks are working in our company.
4 z& W! z% \$ W# X6 Z/ E  Y2 @7 c- j  `7 ~$ o

" {8 z" b$ W$ p6 F4 f  They are jerks; He was a jerk in the past; Mr. A has been jerk for years.6 p3 _; ^( H" z% o! l* m

- v6 J- L! G; \3 \1 C+ t0 x  a  (注:有时年轻人也用 dork 这个字,但不如 jerk 流行); f( c+ N/ o! d/ v! w; i0 v. z

* C, q  ?3 |; E  G& V. A  4. Yo baby:Yo baby 是许多年轻的黑人男子对女子的招呼语,也有人用“Yo baby, yo baby
7 Q, e4 I$ s+ k5 v
(He thinks she is pretty and attractive, so he wants to speak to her.),也就是找话题,想要「打开话匣」。(to use as a form of opening line or pick-up line or to begin a greeting; try to know her or date her) 如果说:
' m: ?$ e8 ^0 u- Q( S, H. [+ b; o5 W. w' A0 N" d$ a
  Yo baby, are you trippin'?
" A7 }8 b! w6 G% T3 \) q" d2 r) y0 H# Z  e3 ~" R
  May I help you with something? I think I have met you somewhere before.  I5 p& H% R# \1 f0 h
) ?" M1 f0 E3 }" y, e* I
* j! V8 t! i' J; ?9 b; R2 g; c9 L; s* X0 |  ^" l$ k
  Hey, hey, hey, what's going on?“what is going on?”就是年轻黑人打招呼的用语 (a form of greeting or open statement) 或 Hey, hey, hey, are you going to the movie?(帅哥,你是去看电影吗?)
. K; i* M, r2 s  \( t( L- Y; @+ z/ W7 S7 ^- d
  5. Catch you later! (a form to say“good乡bye”) 也就是说:现在没有时间与你交谈,以後再谈吧!(I don't have time to talk with you now, but we can talk later.) catch 後面,也可用其他人称代名词(him, her, them 等)
$ R1 i1 m" T5 _+ r/ ]7 W- u. l. O2 x8 y8 a, @, _
  有时年轻小伙子也用:I am off. I am leaving now; I'll talk to you again.
' x9 B5 \* {9 d. y9 m+ d7 ~) f5 S1 B1 k9 s/ o% D. C' Z
