The story of how the song "Happy Birthday to You" came to be, began as a

; z0 n! T: B3 fLouisville, Kentucky Experimental Kindergarten, and Dr. Patty Hill, the

; w* M% M) W  [; E0 ~/ s. w. M& xthe resident expert on spiritual songs, and as the organist for her church,
with her sister's expertise in the area of Kindergarten Education, "Good
Morning to All" was sure to be a success.

　　The sisters published the song in a collection entitled "Song Stories of
the Kindergarten" in 1893. Thirty-one years later, after Dr. Patty Hill became
the head of the Department of Kindergarten Education at Columbia University's
  ^9 T6 D7 N& y# hTeacher College, a gentleman by the name of Robert H. Coleman published the
song, without the sisters' permission. To add insult to injury, he added a
$ v6 Y% o1 @. i+ x1 h6 esecond verse, the familiar "Happy Birthday to You."

eventually, the sisters' original first verse disappeared. "Happy Birthday to
0 p5 l" \: D  a8 vYou," the one and only birthday song, had altogether replaced the sisters'
9 P) u1 W& f0 x9 d2 X4 coriginal title, "Good Morning to All."

purposes.
