Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
; K$ S; T# ]9 r1 VProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
Assembling and starting engines
2 G7 @& W7 i5 a2 VDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
' M* l- }. w1 |0 @% Q  mPreparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned

Good eye-hand coordination
Frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds
Occasionally lifting weights up to 100 pounds

5 l6 X# H8 K/ \' rRegular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations
Working shifts, sometimes away from home
Basic technical knowledge of diesel

Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
! P7 z; n+ i) U1 H: a9 I$ J$ GMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
' e5 L- G, {9 e5 z8 CVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
