Alberta College is governed by an independent Board of Governors 9 W y# F2 K3 x6 D1 {4 O. D: u2 J& a
drawn from a wide cross-section of the community. Established in ; m+ Q1 e8 u" s7 I+ P. t# X
1903, Alberta College predates both the City of Edmonton and the
5 X! s, r# q7 k1 e$ YProvince of Alberta. It was founded by concerned citizens as the Y" a; i& u/ k
first post-secondary school in the area, on land bequeathed by
2 O. U) I: d( G0 w4 f" F0 tpioneer George McDougall for educational purposes. The College 9 ~0 F+ e6 T9 o5 }
initially had three departments: academics, commerce and music,

transfer to McGill University.

as a Second Language courses to immigrants as early as 1917, or
