on the issues that matter. Prime Minister Harper and I have been clear$ a) `) n. k0 C k6 ~+ w% T' `
that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving

2 C+ t8 a* p, @9 |: f6 Z2 i0 OCanada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look$ ]: @5 M- B' E1 U
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
8 u8 l' K+ X9 \. j+ w. n, m w# Vguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
( o$ l( }) Y% S1 V! xinvestment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing

5 b; P9 p5 h0 s1 Z' D6 @The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has4 d: H' ]8 d$ p
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
( s, O1 _$ w5 s+ Eline with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
1 g5 T2 l. B9 D5 B) Scompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that* e, M/ E% _7 L% j& x% J
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.9 B. @8 m" d! _# M. V% }
