The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
/ z! k/ p( z( D$ `6 \) Worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the( \; z. {& Q3 P1 R
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
# g" T, f. C4 H- |& pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,, _) H8 h$ R2 T
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
+ G' M% r/ K3 G" ? k5 w. U, |board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
: M- ]( i' Y, l. a" w' L- b7 ]conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
7 t# Z/ X9 y1 t3 H6 i! @employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
' ^3 P& Z l8 {7 w5 \" Ustaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
' J# b5 b* I8 @$ L: ^' Aall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
9 c! q' ~% `6 u8 }6 r- X' G1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the* a/ a) A0 z1 _0 F$ ?0 A
officers of the Coalition. \' p. B$ `3 \
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural/ t2 o& @. I' |. j
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations2 t8 o% d+ B, q1 J0 F$ S" Z
and public institutions w; q: U% Y0 K* s
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* L d* _( j' W# ^4 D% X, A# _- lfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; O2 }8 w2 Q4 L. U9 | X
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community* j( k$ ^5 d [% n2 v4 F
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

/ P2 `7 m/ [" R! b/ [5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community+ h$ A/ a( M5 M# W% J3 I

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic7 o# ~) S% [) F: h* J2 m0 r
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society" K* e( C$ r# o% \- |
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working6 c0 G! k2 x8 `* ~
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically, P j$ f& N: D

Administrative responsibilities:3 s* B% L8 {' j8 n1 o- W( q$ J7 f
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its" I X2 R9 b% P0 Q
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
9 B a I/ u( G+ tdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
* M2 Z8 M1 a; q) `) X* y* r7 smembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.+ u3 p6 r. t+ G5 _' Y i
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the% U" p* ]/ ?5 ]& S

6 J6 L9 V# q3 A4 A" YAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
# x2 V! k- Z* a' Limplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
# e0 i8 y. V8 |7 O& @2 z y( }. Uoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.# |1 B7 E, F ?3 y! i/ ?
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
8 ]2 I" b) s6 O _aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
3 k5 w( x2 Q0 y2 d' v! xbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership" W/ \, U8 q) P4 K$ ]
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
0 V/ _/ I: {' L8 g0 Tfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of2 f5 n Z. a- A! X
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
7 c! I t! p5 x8 m# k( sstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( J" ^3 T( M ^. C2 Z* `
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- r& L- b$ {6 M1 ?5 h4 U
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
