The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

7 e2 s1 S7 ?; M2 z V6 w* F+ c# _The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
2 n9 L. v9 k _% |0 |% g9 B( I Norganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
; ?( j: O7 M# n1 Poperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
0 f: o2 c8 s! i, Zthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
& q# ]/ D9 A2 K5 i* ]8 b4 Voperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: p" p7 z# |2 a4 f0 Cboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is( ~. o9 }% Y* R; L2 K) s# i2 |
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 a ^3 e# [1 R) Iemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires+ b7 R+ e8 c2 R T$ S% ]: T# g3 K% b
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 V r* a" I* Y0 J2 H# z
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.0 M' e) J* a& S; n) K/ [. @
; [' _, G/ d) X# tFunctions and responsibilities:8 ~3 Y+ K& w; y! o) K4 z
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:5 @7 Z4 b" B) h+ A
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
- g# j3 q+ ^5 L* i! p( T" N) dofficers of the Coalition
0 a/ d' G. k/ n0 t: R, o2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% H0 ]& w3 I/ ~
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 ~8 S, o' w8 D* q8 |- k
and public institutions
: L( d" L3 a6 O" n+ Q" T3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
" I$ v0 t7 G/ E) j; O# B# o$ Ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
2 a) g- ^1 u7 Z! U3 z# w) l0 q9 h4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
' c4 @( c1 O, }! _* L- ?organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with+ ^/ s4 n/ \* Q2 P9 z: `

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community! g4 `/ W' F4 j; @! E* A

1 g! z& c% L L) pAdministrative responsibilities:
. [' ^& B# @7 B5 X2 Z+ N1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its! w+ j# q! ^( b, `+ H( H+ U
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of2 E0 D! w4 w6 s7 s" C
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the. a* l2 o) [/ z6 s% E% }, N! ^8 T
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
" s! _+ ~ }0 U1 z& P9 F2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 {, z: l" [) D

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
: H, A- V& V8 |9 AAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# g9 h" G, \% w' f
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
6 t, E6 D- @$ h! z& Q5 Xoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.; W; Z+ y9 f, O! g5 C; X8 }; X
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
! D+ L' [) B- Aaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
3 j* ~8 d, M8 g4 P( K O, D: kbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership( z/ e) i9 V) Q- L3 o, t' j
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
; m/ g- a% t' U0 _- j" G3 R+ wfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of/ U- S) F+ T+ `! x
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
" O4 m$ w5 k6 u9 b" _4 g6 v$ Sstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all7 j4 ?0 Y; H9 j& J9 B) r
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of( z' a6 k, ^( V& q- ]' U
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
