Those pots are good for growing orchids in regions/area of high humidity. Anything with aerial roots will be OK in those pots but the problem is: this kind of pots are not designed to hold minute soil particles and extra moisture for long. Anything else other than coarse planting media like orchid barks. sphagnum moss will run out of the holes. In Edmonton, our humidity is relatively low, so, even growing of orchids did not necessarily need those particular pots.
