3 c4 o# j0 f6 g# q- g2 T! R18. but he has never managed to get enough money to have the church clock repaired.

% b4 C& s% l) R" l19. The big clock which used to strike the hours day and night was damaged many years ago and has been silent ever since.

2 |5 ^9 o# s6 p20. One night, however, our vicar woke up with a start: the clock was striking the hours!

22. Armed with a torch, the vicar went up into the clock tower to see what was going on.

29. You've probably woken up everyone in the village as well.# y* H  M0 |; }

30. Still, I'm glad the bell is working again.

31. That's the trouble, vicar,' answered Bill.: ]  E% C3 }+ Q  f* u/ b

+ c: [8 Z# h% H; A% n32. It's working all right, but I'm afraid that at one o'clock it will strike thirteen times and there's nothing I can do about it.8 w+ }1 {' ]" J

33. We'll get used to that, Bill,' said the vicar.

34. Thirteen is not as good as one, but it's better than nothing.

5 N/ e3 |' `" z3 a' |/ ?7 m35. Now let's go downstairs and have a cup of tea.3 z' v( I& S% b
        来,咱们下楼去喝杯茶吧。”
