* E9 {& I& N$ Q% g2 EThe successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
6 ]8 D; d* M3 x& {9 |) x! othinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 7 i/ E' ]" Z9 K+ j
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
! T5 O4 c1 i. m7 GEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 1 `# w- s) k4 x7 w4 N5 o
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
" U" n! r4 o; q1 V! iEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 5 X1 A% H8 s6 r! H5 J+ f

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
/ l" m: I$ Q. b3 ?0 W, S& i, Cexecution of the YWCA Strategy " a1 f: F2 j" X: T. ?2 }

& c! W1 S0 d( tSpecific responsibilities include:  7 U- L& G3 t$ E8 {. l  Z. }

( {; c0 o5 v+ e: t•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 4 E3 t% {6 [$ Z2 l  R! J' }* S- g
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 7 h8 y! W9 s6 V8 [! e) a+ U
the Board of Directors;  
- ~. R5 I1 b, F0 ~* h( e8 O. u•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
, k* m4 J8 E% b- M1 ]2 \4 uincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) E7 ~* l7 {( C5 ?
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ; K. ~# v7 z: [: \
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
' S' q2 x( S4 d4 i3 {! M, `8 H& q! tobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
: \/ }6 v+ P. K+ d! u! ^the board;  
8 I! q  W! d& p•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  . ~$ L$ o1 ?# l' L
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
; l% Q$ S' t& u- Q; G, {7 othe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
7 o/ I9 g: |% }1 O# b% t9 w•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
. N% V! ]; j5 @9 t$ d; z; Kchanging needs of the organization and community;
% ~3 W4 ~. f7 E6 G4 e7 j  w$ S& O, _•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ( |) p% c3 u/ }/ c" \) g
commitments;
+ T, q) \* n; ]7 I9 i7 B•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  * o4 ?" }( {# N4 o
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 7 P. z9 t% }, R* w. j) ~
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  9 R) c$ ?! v1 U: u( c5 o! L
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 7 g* B! l. w5 l
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
+ W, g+ t( a+ E4 w& w  @( Meffectively and positively represent the association;
5 t4 @# z) B0 b8 S! ~( f# I8 J- G+ a* Z; P" B/ ^4 u- N
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring + z5 l  e4 j! m, d1 e* }
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
# n6 w3 `) ?: o5 j; y•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 9 ~7 t, H0 i( `
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED , J( s8 Z- o; r9 ^3 Q0 q1 g: ]
the forthcoming year;  
3 c- N7 h% E! _7 Z6 O2 X& z5 N•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
* _% T' V5 U3 Npractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
# S( ^6 r, |* J$ _YWCA Canada; and - M( k* I7 D, `' f1 i  ]; N
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
6 Y/ x# r& d- \/ k  A7 aForces.

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus & z$ R  q" r  |, h0 `% p- \
around decisions, plans and actions;
+ h- K! B# C" [# ?•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  \* m" I1 u# Y8 O* X1 t' k•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
) T5 h5 ]2 b; L1 f, o& _and achievable with realistic timeframes; ! B2 o; H! _8 `) r) e- Q: O, V
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 4 L% y: y; u. J1 [1 Z$ S, l3 _
simultaneously;
5 _* X2 L2 Q9 B" q2 m6 P# {# {•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
4 j4 F9 x; ?, z9 p+ C& frapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; # g# h* B# v3 I6 T3 _
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and % Z! o2 G' ]. @1 y  G

Required Professional Designation / Certification $ i  B; f- F- V1 s: C  g
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
& j& l: d9 s3 u- g1 m- q 7 s! ~5 G/ M/ ?, [) i7 e6 {* F
Required Experience
$ ~7 s2 l8 Z& c- e. N5 l3 w1 P! p•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 1 X3 ?+ v3 r/ @; ?' t9 }' D- [* s
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 0 Z: Z- b/ E, y/ N' C
abilities;
; o6 s2 _" _$ M% x  `% o•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, / Z0 j2 \2 r5 A
Networking and Fundraising;
& ^& V( |9 @, K+ \& M6 J& F•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting * a+ r; @1 ^1 J2 O
and financial statements; and
4 f6 p: T0 y" _6 o•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women - v# t: e/ Z. @+ l
centered perspective. * l5 o3 Y5 r" J8 o- R; K  T8 ]' T7 K
