The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
/ G1 d5 F  i8 _: ^thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead : q7 C7 M! Y8 u8 G
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 7 K" G; `" R7 Q3 k+ w* B
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
1 Q9 [8 R  V( t) R- v7 j/ |8 D6 _surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

9 X3 l! T- }9 ^% ]
8 b& s4 P  e* [& e5 E# n  ~2 mReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 1 G$ P+ H! z' ]6 l8 u
execution of the YWCA Strategy
& W* l- C; J9 ~6 ~9 F / f4 C# e4 {& G' U9 u
Specific responsibilities include:  
9 L+ A5 w  j, S! Z2 k! i9 N # a/ N2 G5 ?! R/ s0 ~" W
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 3 |) j4 s1 G! T6 {
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 6 D: M. U8 g' x! d& h2 s( z! Z" d
the Board of Directors;  
  {% R0 O# d0 o) l+ `8 O- O3 M•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ( X1 \. C# O. a; r3 K/ S
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # A- x, o2 v# d; \  U; r! m8 ~, C
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
$ _+ c) N( f* i( [3 j8 F, d. h•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and " Y6 e2 P! r2 i7 Y- o# R$ W3 B5 A
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
& z) U* x) R6 ~2 {" W# Xthe board;  7 V% B% B) a- {+ `) h" {% s- }
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  1 s" V. y7 H% E' E% |! R* T% Z
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion & T2 w9 Y( c' ~
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 y, Q0 U7 _( ^4 F: _, F0 l
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
7 m" h+ }  }' o2 Cchanging needs of the organization and community;
: q; b" o3 K& y7 Q•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 8 [5 o4 }- d# M$ `
commitments;
% n$ W2 B9 X$ U# X•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  1 V/ _9 B0 x1 w% \6 I% L
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
& f# ?: d, _% T/ N$ Oselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  " P4 z$ E4 w3 \7 e+ p: S) _# Y
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ( i2 b/ h1 J$ I' W. P
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
) \, W4 r9 i" r! u" V1 E% ?8 leffectively and positively represent the association; - z- Z* s1 k0 I4 i- @) p; t

  F9 h9 M' |6 K; W, v* C•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring : X" T8 E# R; B( W
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
5 W) v/ t8 \) `" o2 R0 \9 p3 x5 g•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
' j; l* A5 d) A5 R+ Operformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED   l2 O2 t9 @& w2 Z5 I1 r& r9 D
the forthcoming year;  : J8 {# X( R, `/ k
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
) N+ O6 n  V3 h  ~* d9 H. {% mpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 9 f1 h' X  A  ?# F! i
YWCA Canada; and
3 q  M. K/ L( a6 f•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ( Y. x, P5 R+ p

Required Skills & Abilities ' f6 Z" r% J* S
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ; r/ p, P0 n1 P3 U2 U$ V
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
5 i$ y9 x7 W: z2 P  u4 B- karound decisions, plans and actions;
' F5 @) l! ]4 ]' C1 Z1 }•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
! v+ ~0 M7 ?+ p6 H& W. K+ s•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable " \, K' O! T1 L9 h) S% W8 f
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
) C4 L- g; X4 }9 G3 e# Z" K5 D; _•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

8 Z9 R0 _3 @0 w) ?•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build # m) o2 \4 D0 j) A. f. }
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
4 O9 }" I' ^" e2 x; F: F•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

/ }1 d. B! j/ g4 D9 y Required Professional Designation / Certification
+ O2 I" v+ b' X6 k# M# w•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
7 T$ `0 @5 S7 y* j# K! a- O; `' k + ~! o" r. ^1 n9 G
Required Experience
. B$ G, B, g& B/ K! J2 t7 m2 R•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; : g6 b/ V1 P, `. @0 Q$ h; h3 N" ^
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
/ y$ \- I) a& B( B8 D% p3 ?abilities;
% \/ z2 a1 Y' }•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
2 T. H4 O! b& TNetworking and Fundraising; 7 S3 _' E  c0 |; _# I
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting - v$ w* _/ _. E, m, h
and financial statements; and
* ^( h6 m" n& x' G•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
. p. Q: |- ^$ h: N3 i' Icentered perspective. * Q8 ], W+ s. K6 n2 W1 x
