Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Responsibilities

! V+ C% ~; S# I4 w1 {, G2 \Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ; H/ v, `! @! L( E) {& C# b; b1 N) U4 K
execution of the YWCA Strategy
) p. v/ N! c) {+ \9 x
2 R& \9 ^3 E" i, [( W$ C" mSpecific responsibilities include:  
$ U! z/ ]2 j" ]& K+ d/ A 8 x7 Y& a0 T! I7 L9 b
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
) R3 ?8 ~& V: r9 Q2 Q% c$ Uthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
1 m1 e& p. a" p6 z/ Lthe Board of Directors;  
. m- n; \- C3 L7 {1 E/ c•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
2 t$ u& |2 ]( A" u# Nincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
, H& `' \* A: |4 A- Senable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
% n9 d# t# C' T. s0 ]•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
" [+ L# f7 q3 J. e; tobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
$ }/ b( H( l/ {0 A5 v( Fthe board;  
  T9 V5 p" w2 o; w% b•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
0 {, k& F5 N: h( e" I•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 7 x/ f. R, |, o+ x
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
+ j0 b+ F4 B& ~% ~•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
1 X3 F0 n8 k7 t5 W0 b; Mchanging needs of the organization and community; 1 [  q3 K" S( [9 p# r$ V
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 4 y! s7 F5 u' O+ W2 C" c
commitments;
) i8 i2 ~2 K# t/ A& [# b& c•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  1 [5 r' p) L% q7 P
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective + F0 ], ?, N# o$ E# g$ ~6 r) m
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
( g2 g& J/ u- A5 W6 e. z+ [•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
3 o* n; r8 R9 [! P  \# m•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to # O/ |9 A* g1 H* a2 H4 Y0 b7 S
effectively and positively represent the association; 0 P+ P6 E! S: H: k

, W* o$ I7 L- C. K! |1 q•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 n) I% @0 B, k, V- q
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
1 @8 ?; n1 U: j* Z) _, t1 j•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 b; B2 h6 I2 a1 {, q" O1 Hperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
1 w) P& {& v  h. R% j9 b/ Y2 Vthe forthcoming year;  ( P" q" Z4 H+ G2 Q; W  _) U2 E
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
9 H- a8 U3 S# y& kpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ; O1 h$ ^0 D) C! D6 K# n( D/ E
YWCA Canada; and 3 b9 b: A& p$ [6 h% j
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
8 ^1 i2 I$ U" N! f& t* D3 lForces.

; k  V9 c4 j. FRequired Skills & Abilities 3 H7 S3 |' B' u& f+ y# c
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;   {" K- H5 c8 r$ d
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
" n. x- Z- p" {/ m. {around decisions, plans and actions; 8 m8 k+ j8 L2 U& ^
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ' K5 p  }- g( |' b2 G
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
! z) a* ]$ x# `" b$ ]% m! g7 a7 Zand achievable with realistic timeframes; + W' p# c0 F6 ?
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 0 e4 l- t8 M) m5 L' ~5 X
simultaneously;
0 [2 K, C8 }! x4 T( H+ O•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 1 U8 [7 v  {7 f$ l' {: f0 X3 |
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
7 y4 b! n6 b* z% V+ y3 l# Z•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
' c. f1 t( ^; J( r) u•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
. v% J4 \/ ~/ t# ^  K•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
: s% a9 [* M7 c# P
8 {- j3 ]" I* w& Z# ~Required Experience
) E5 A) R! h+ X* J•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 4 l& T* n$ R& r$ B
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
1 ~6 u: o. j, f5 {. fabilities;
& I  q: f# [7 `1 Y•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 0 P! }2 Y$ F" n: l  Y  V! Y9 U4 U
Networking and Fundraising; # R6 ~  B$ O4 y) D7 K. M
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting $ Z. I, S- [0 A2 ~$ V# j
and financial statements; and
# A* k. Z! Q7 u" g2 U6 K•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
