The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 4 @/ c; ]1 F! n

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
6 F+ [# B3 s6 G6 n; Y9 b' mEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 6 b/ f+ r3 c2 M6 c) C
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities 0 a: z( Z: l+ h/ k3 t* S2 t. U

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
/ b5 d/ n2 p. j& W( c" sexecution of the YWCA Strategy
  c3 y3 R3 R) x: K0 ]& n
  m* J/ h6 S* C& ~6 P$ `: ESpecific responsibilities include:  , v4 t2 K2 s2 b% p+ _& U" T

7 b7 r5 I# A2 \% J6 j! f•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
! A+ d+ W* I3 v& R  s+ K# pthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ( e, I+ _: }4 c: s. i% \
the Board of Directors;  7 b6 S8 j- G6 P3 }
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations , z  D8 w# g, s/ D3 {
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to . I1 Q$ V; e4 T
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; , l# e) {2 D+ T  ]
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
3 X) @4 G4 Q5 e) ~+ w! x: D8 ^objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
: E: \* c( b0 W. z& `the board;  5 j' L  l: n1 _3 h5 l) h* k/ I0 o" }
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
- ]" a1 s0 r. B" c7 k& q9 G•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
: X5 j  E7 k$ m! S& ?/ s3 q! j! ~: U/ Pthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; . x1 f/ H5 f7 ^, e0 p( g
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
+ X% n9 o0 o* I& S5 m, G# _changing needs of the organization and community;
9 ~- @8 a+ ?' z. s5 d5 o  H•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
$ s* m- a/ K8 n$ t. S6 y; y$ Gcommitments;
4 M0 d+ S9 _: `% P' B% g+ l•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;    _. M5 Q$ }, I; C
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 3 I* @7 W; v' F" i4 U- I* v2 h/ o& d
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
: n$ _3 [2 g9 K2 M( @+ ~! Y•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; : c9 j+ v1 B$ A
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 7 A# G; c- K1 e- ]  W- p8 }# u
effectively and positively represent the association; 3 c, q6 d9 A. u3 Z* z; a
& G3 D  |2 \& h7 s+ W! o
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
  Z* i$ ~( J# I, T5 I: qthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
* w  b/ u0 C1 |; I' a. ^7 b•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 8 a) v& Y9 P2 S, [2 g( d% q
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
, _; s; M/ M# pthe forthcoming year;  
- E( x: I% m' [& C7 l5 s# E+ K•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 1 J- w7 E" J: D
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 5 M. n7 D1 c5 V+ _9 p6 N5 O
YWCA Canada; and 0 \! Y) d- y8 \- m4 x1 Z+ I
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 1 O' {( v4 H3 \! ~
Forces.

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ( w7 T1 U! A' m8 n' x: V- ?% T  z
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus $ L5 Q: o" q. p. u7 @% e2 o
around decisions, plans and actions; , _8 W  G. q/ w( A5 J
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; + v6 k. ]2 M; c( w6 A% c/ s
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable & H6 @! Y0 K9 |8 y
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
; K2 q7 R6 {8 W' F3 |•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
& @! L0 n. i  [. m2 ysimultaneously;

  a/ r! \( _+ j- ^# z2 G3 f4 brapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

+ l1 s6 R" S- b8 `" Q1 O Required Professional Designation / Certification
& v4 \! e/ G  z* Q+ W8 x4 w•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 6 C: T" N1 K4 N1 l# }9 Q7 P

3 u  l# G, f, M; ^Required Experience 6 K7 ?! [' l( l3 e' l1 x! }
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; + D+ S4 Q, K+ R4 s* _8 [/ `
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 g! c0 l5 l/ }* K% U; b, d$ c3 D* v3 R
abilities; 0 r+ n" b1 \  P' E  Q  ]# u
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 2 Z" O3 B1 M' z4 V8 ]+ t2 I: U! g5 U
Networking and Fundraising;
4 i) e* M* B) G( w: G0 Y•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting , U; r) P# v) h; Y6 C) D7 S
and financial statements; and
