O, Z: q8 ZJob Description: The Family Support Worker offers both emergency and ongoing support for socially and economically disadvantaged families in Edmonton who have the least access to resources. This assistance may include advocacy, referrals, accompaniment to appointments to court and with Child Welfare and enhancing the capacity of families to provide appropriate care for their children.

Education/Experience: Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Social Work or equivalent and relevant experience. Knowledge of poverty, homelessness and Edmonton’s urban core. Skills/Abilities: Strong written and verbal communication skills and effective assessment skills. Have the ability to collaboratively develop goal plans with parents & evaluate their attainment. Be able to advocate and have the ability to establish rapport and trust with the participants. Have strong problem solving skills/ability to prioritize & multi-task.

PLUS: Be knowledgeable about community resources/health services. Can be self-directed and work well within a team. Develop productive working relationships with program participants & community agencies. Be knowledgeable about pre/post natal support and Child Welfare Act. Ability to maintain accurate written caseload notes, computer records (database program).
