PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. — A strong earthquake occurred early Tuesday in the Queen Charlotte Islands region off of B.C.'s central west coast, according to Earthquakes Canada.

The 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck at 7:30 a.m. local time.5 ~) r& l- L" Z `5 q% @9 }

An earthquake in this range is classified by as "strong" and "may cause a lot of damage in very populated areas," said Earthquakes Canada.+ ^3 J; s. Z: k; {. @

The area where the earthquake struck is located about 260 kilometres southwest of Prince Rupert, B.C.
