Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
1 P Y) v" g+ e) q) Q' q3 @Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule8 I3 M% s% s# V9 e- k+ ], R
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
) Z- W1 Q5 t4 q( e; Q9 h1 ^* senvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste8 d0 f8 L$ Y2 d0 x9 d
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
2 x! l6 q- @! Y% K9 `: evermin-composting and residential recycling.9 `; ^" x* f. v

This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
1 r2 i! g, J' F# w0 i( kto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
8 W }) s8 p5 F( Q0 L- [' J" Dcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
. J/ c- S3 J) B: }$ w; l" ^! Zreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
: I8 P n3 e* R; o0 E( Qresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the) z" w7 U; \, q& ~7 ~- @. ~9 K
importance of composting and recycling.1 ~6 t& i! A4 j
7 ?8 G. l4 T8 |) X3 ]1 M: w; tExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the3 j2 R7 _' p& X+ t5 v, l
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
: [% B: }- Y: t, n! k. Jpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and4 c* p+ F$ Q% K
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at- G* _" }; Z P6 K4 d
various demonstration gardens and general public and school$ v0 I, W: X& O7 O+ F
presentations.

+ o6 t4 m' b' Y w" I2 }There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and; F6 Z+ z$ {- ~4 r5 l' h X" O
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the, @4 i) F- d1 I
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your$ P5 F5 K7 _7 Q6 H
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master. w7 a& T+ r! w% u( W
