 % N% f1 b: q0 T* a" yDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
 ' ?# ?$ ~) U  j$ W! F, k% s  {; oMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
 0 }. R; g$ q) Y9 d  u& M(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
 * h; m( G, M' N" I. Fenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste. w0 Y9 h& ]0 F5 w" t- j
 management; home composting; household hazardous waste;9 e6 b5 K: X3 T8 W& Z
 vermin-composting and residential recycling.% K+ ]7 L. [: u0 _0 ~4 J8 y' F& f
 & m, y1 ]% {$ h. @
 This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
 7 j( K5 B2 `9 L, Kto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates# e7 r$ M% S8 w5 g$ K
 complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
 , h- V/ j4 B! x) j6 Nreduce, reuse, recycle and recover.  Graduates become important# ~5 t3 |% R- a; W/ {6 ?
 resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
 % X* x. ]9 Q' simportance of composting and recycling.  [4 J$ X0 Z% n
 : X/ }7 T  z, W
 Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the" p2 |' v% p" `5 ?6 A0 a% q
 Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
 & b1 {, K6 A6 z2 Jpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
 0 t5 s6 K. ^1 a+ `8 x) |+ Lmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
 ( }3 y8 D6 X) Pvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
 1 P# D: h( b) [- \6 T4 }presentations.4 ~+ Q" t. X* s, b: O6 l
 . L2 O6 d: ?# k$ S$ `- T; i2 d  y
 There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and9 H7 `8 i4 B4 ]" y! P7 x; s+ _
 volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
 3 N' Z& H- @3 `! ]4 Jmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
 & i" C4 N/ |+ s+ \7 s8 C6 sknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master2 u6 A% U( e6 g9 j: A9 _
