Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

; N. ?/ [$ f6 \! ~Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
8 O1 u0 u# x, B% `7 {Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule9 ~1 j! M6 {4 ]+ X4 m7 F% }
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
: t2 F+ ^0 L1 K$ J; wenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste2 o, R4 F8 ^7 G. s3 A& A c! n0 O
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;& o) H" Y; {" l3 p+ }
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
" Z( ~7 ^/ r+ c' D/ e. b- f; `- ?# x+ L
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips) J5 W2 R5 o0 x. x2 D1 H
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
& P! \# t& p9 \6 X4 F. _1 C) ]% Ccomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:) d7 l" F9 X5 P% P' G( M
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
/ U1 o' w+ Q+ q' P$ i$ t8 uresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the- l- V0 ~8 b# s
importance of composting and recycling.: N3 Q) `. ^) f; l0 n; M: k
$ j$ {/ b( Q* D6 B
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
9 j5 o4 ?# N5 @9 LReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;, H5 f' s2 Z/ c
public education display booths; assisting with programs and* Q; i% p: f( m4 r
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at, o( Q0 u& _) m/ P% L% J
various demonstration gardens and general public and school( F. S% g+ Z% I8 w# w
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and0 v" P1 [9 r A, W* n! X5 n3 q
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the, P, H' N o& v* Q
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your3 \6 b* [, Z; K$ S' ^
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master# }5 g! V) V, u

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings2 i, K( b' g/ \+ `/ {
