Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the" Z" L1 w( U& {7 r+ L" E1 ?6 ?4 ]4 [
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule9 q) _4 M- ]! P) k: ?, ?$ G6 m- p
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about- o5 n' b" O0 ~, _' B, s: g
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
! g7 v( J3 D0 d/ n1 A Xmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
3 k& Z2 ~. p3 O) b/ Pvermin-composting and residential recycling., g' k) C2 y8 y" {4 E2 W% o8 p! O
4 C( t1 @. c) ?% m JThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
' e" j: K8 ?1 \( l& [; R7 Y' zto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
& F2 M" A- T" T) j4 j: K4 mcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
, {" W0 ~ @+ ^) Z8 vreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important- H# E1 T. n1 T
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the) Y0 w% B- g0 j/ G1 j& v+ X2 J
importance of composting and recycling.

* |! t7 l4 Z* [ M" i9 e1 u/ j1 B* aExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
3 `! T( K0 c8 P, a6 N$ W+ g: PReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;" C7 v4 T7 @* H5 O5 x+ v; v3 K/ ~
public education display booths; assisting with programs and' I! P) n* N$ D2 A" O( c
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at- ~8 R. a% z4 J- S% V; f3 }5 V
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
0 G6 R# m [2 K. Q' apresentations.( E9 F' G# {8 `4 S! H) \( U! U8 F1 g: W
6 Z5 I8 o& } J& G2 h$ P5 A( BThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
A( J6 ~+ N$ ^volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
