Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the' v5 h# U. @; O4 U- |
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule& r9 i `) P- l) Q& n% ?5 u
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about4 |2 M8 K$ \. g2 m1 p( P6 u% ~8 z0 ~
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
3 b) b/ \/ J6 C0 t, U, pmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;- |# `: j% r: g# b
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
0 V R( B- L3 F" `. F4 M& i/ h/ s, O% n" J
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
+ j0 I" X" @0 D! S1 ?8 M0 Rto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
, S6 g; f! _4 E5 |% t& Tcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
+ x! B" S( a6 Creduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
6 E# u, v* a8 d8 |% Lresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
" t. c0 \) H6 S/ z4 C, Q2 D+ m9 p( [importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the3 O$ O* N$ _% m( v
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;% ? m3 G5 v# S( d, E9 U- x3 J/ e
public education display booths; assisting with programs and0 l' |7 [0 z9 T5 `' V
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
. R, F) F" h! y3 X) X+ l, Tvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school" e7 A+ z, v/ R8 Q5 d8 i
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and8 E2 J( v3 T- H; i& e8 b, h# y" e
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
( ]: K7 k1 \" v5 Ymost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your; r% r9 K5 I- x) ?5 O6 U+ d5 g
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master. _2 @9 B; Z8 m" A6 {; ^$ U
