Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!. _& ?0 j! }0 x' P8 B% [% {
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch

0 h: q) g' @9 K' L2 CDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
3 D6 e; W) W( q7 {& r+ V2 {, qMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
) E) Q% r# g) ~; W. g(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
) |. H1 y/ z! n0 k$ t! j7 e& tenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
$ v8 h$ f5 B9 D4 _/ s. Pmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;2 Q- Y# `% G/ d' n
vermin-composting and residential recycling.& ~3 q2 [* v- Y4 S" `- x0 e
( g6 ^* M: Q% E( i" rThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
* V- r' O. o7 N. Z1 i: F+ yto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
( [- |: l. B) Q7 o* g' Dcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:8 \+ w' ~% B! s) r) n
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important# Q! s& ]/ j- N
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
- q" B- ~- q2 L6 v. f# f4 [importance of composting and recycling." }; ^1 q( L9 f- ]% Z

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
3 O6 k. a6 N; \Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;2 E0 e; ^! r: d% w) G! f8 H+ z4 C
public education display booths; assisting with programs and5 j6 {/ L% g# e; N
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
4 O4 b! M9 @6 v( ^+ Tvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
# x. j8 e2 l% v; d& o; mpresentations.

- ]+ N& f( G8 i; ?5 k+ ~% ]5 kThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and. J$ @0 ?1 T* A6 S8 @. H
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
+ ]6 b# @) [1 Kmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
% {: p$ u3 S9 l6 F$ h0 i4 yknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
* l N% J% G3 NComposter-Recycler Volunteer!

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
