Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!' v0 c: w/ q( _" [+ c

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the4 d: ^. I7 {2 Y
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule- d; M' n9 J b& Z
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about$ }; q$ G3 q8 o0 T
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste" f4 Z; \5 B0 z' I4 v8 C+ ?2 J
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
% _1 w p9 s5 P) J5 [' svermin-composting and residential recycling./ Y; Z6 K( G! H( s. B' H) Q7 @2 C9 a7 n
& Z. A: z$ e) U. f1 \( uThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
$ H& d9 a; A1 N# @to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates% q; t0 }, P' J3 G, T% s. ?
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:% O; L' h. @) w; V4 Q9 x; l
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
: |5 b; ?! q7 ^% |" Cresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the6 Y7 |, O) V+ h3 E
importance of composting and recycling.

( {; k" x# o; J# G; G; EExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
5 H" ~. g' V2 z& ~Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;. W( h+ `2 `5 e' [6 s1 o3 b
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
6 y# g2 o& W2 N& X* B1 Vmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
5 G! u5 U$ \/ `0 D) B \various demonstration gardens and general public and school

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
" Z& g+ A7 J/ r. W' i S0 bvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
& c( U8 ^3 n1 Wmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
