systems, which provides light, heat, communications, and power to a variety of new and existing

/ ~, ?5 m: F1 |Construction electricians read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings
- Q8 Q7 m6 }6 M; j' D0 {and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layout. They cut, thread, bend, assemble, and

through conduits, position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches,

underground, install data cabling, and install and maintain fibre optic and signalling systems.

all weathers; inside in dusty industrial plants and mills; to state-of-the-art clean-rooms in hospitals and5 }5 _8 ~3 k; J9 u m
manufacturing plants. The work often requires considerable standing, bending, crawling, lifting,! I0 a% }/ S. K2 P1 R6 a
climbing, pulling, and reaching and may be conducted in cramped, confined spaces or on ladders and8 w) o( Q3 R- A+ i
scaffolding at great heights. Hazards include electric shocks, burns, and falling objects.6 S1 j& X. N, y* Y2 {
Construction electricians are required to have good mechanical ability, a thorough0 R2 ~8 c0 H& X E' }+ _
knowledge of the principles of electricity, circuitry, and power distribution systems, and familiarity with
* t* E7 X; [, B& Y" u; n6 mthe materials and techniques of construction. All construction electricians are required to be competent in
3 z! m8 Q' z* K% n8 Cthe use of hand and power tools and test equipment.

On small jobs, construction electricians may work alone with minimal supervision, and they. ]' e7 k J6 {6 X) K$ p

Construction electricians interact and work co-operatively with the full spectrum of

and air-conditioning technicians. They are required to constantly adjust their schedule and work to

connections at specific points in the construction cycle.
m! F9 o5 {; @; M$ ^With advances in technology the work of the construction electrician is changing. Today’s* {. N+ O6 y1 c& F7 o/ b9 _7 T4 g
wired environment requires construction electricians to be able to install a variety of wiring such as data,5 [4 A0 n- W1 V$ {; ?
audio, video, signalling, and communication cabling. Electrical control systems are also becoming more) F6 ^9 v- n6 c; s+ O
complex, often solid-state or computer-controlled, which requires the construction electrician to have a
# o1 R& p# O# dgreater knowledge of electronic systems.
