The double-blossomed peach-trees with rosy bloom were gay$ z! e; }0 }. }8 h8 p, o
When grandpa rode beneath them upon his courting way,
! c b2 d# `3 }6 L n5 Z AFrom the white gate to the homestead they stretched in stately row,
# _: u2 a6 q# {/ n. z4 ~1 }( ~And showered his path with petals, just sixty years ago.2 h* W8 L) k4 r
His riding suit was spick and span, his jingling bridle rein,/ \6 l4 U* f+ M) ]( \/ a5 F$ |
Was polished to the limit, his top-boots shone again;
7 H/ `- `! K, w0 I V6 JA mass of youthful vanity, from curly head to toe,' A2 W# b- P; W, F- [
Was my darling gay young grandpa – just sixty years ago.5 A$ n, p: J# v4 B5 ~( x6 J6 s
9 m0 Z+ H% I5 F$ _# qUpon the broad veranda, demure my grandma sat,
- f4 F: n) E2 h9 @% BAnd hid her girlish blushes beneath her garden hat,2 {5 ? g+ A9 o$ C# d
Her dainty flowing muslins enfolded her like snow;
: r) U8 |9 g4 ?9 RAh! Very sweet my grandma was, just sixty years ago.
! g) c' Q$ q' I0 f, n2 H( A8 FWith sweeping bow and fluttering heart he told his hopes and fears,
, R8 W' Q+ R P4 L0 ZAnd grandma gently said him ‘Yea’, mid blushes, smiles and tears.
# \* d/ \- b' c9 ?, I% W, G; G0 S7 `2 ^When the double-blossomed peach-trees with fruit were bending low,
1 [ m) m; @, YGood Father Flynn united them – just sixty years ago.2 o) D9 X* Y6 d1 N& _0 n- a
, \' B2 N, \3 I3 EII# p. P; P; p/ J: D% M/ C
There’s a sound of mirthful revel in the dear old home to-night,6 ?( s; Q& C {4 v, f" @
Where the merry young folk frolic ‘neath the incandescent light,
5 D% G V1 w3 C) fJazzing on the broad veranda, listening to the radio,6 _. G" A. {- Z! Y7 L
Knowing wonders quite undreamt of in the days of long ago.
; j% ^! x% ]. t6 D( g& kOn the vine-enclosed veranda, sits my grandpa in his chair,
) N7 [4 z. x( P7 o' mAnd the flower-scented night winds stirs the white locks of his hair;% J- t. J! I) t% O+ R
Grandma sits and smiles beside him, happy in the young folks glee,( b/ l7 m! r6 `+ m! X f9 H2 V
Such a dainty dear old lady, ever young at heart is she.

And the harvest of their labours in the moonlight stretches wide
) z j/ x: A& y% ~All the land they’ve won and toiled for as they struggled side by side," p! s" Q& H8 {3 Y! ]1 G7 O" u
In their brave old eyes no shadow from the griefs of gone-by years,1 L e. s" ^8 v
For their hearts beat high within them – dauntless breed of pioneers.
1 e7 t% I' Y$ X0 [$ F! `/ dHand in hand they sit together, while the angels smile above,. T1 \- ?8 @5 a6 _3 t/ Y9 r# R3 ?
On their long unbroken record of faith, sacrifice and love;
; E9 k4 I. }% a/ [3 z. ~/ k: xFrom the double-blossomed peach trees come the petals falling slow,) ]9 p1 H/ v9 f3 h& M3 h$ ~0 g
