The double-blossomed peach-trees with rosy bloom were gay2 t- ^3 I2 g) I! u# J
When grandpa rode beneath them upon his courting way,7 }% U- m! n& }7 d- ^
From the white gate to the homestead they stretched in stately row,8 C6 F% a- k8 P- H
And showered his path with petals, just sixty years ago.# g, _. l9 }. m1 O3 K* E8 Y
His riding suit was spick and span, his jingling bridle rein,0 S% Q( r5 K3 s7 }
Was polished to the limit, his top-boots shone again;
; k, T; S: V1 o+ g) W/ kA mass of youthful vanity, from curly head to toe,
' S; @. D* R# h8 o/ D' h) L( KWas my darling gay young grandpa – just sixty years ago.
& m2 |( U7 D# n8 ]% z! x3 s. C
$ h0 E( ^# w, N. x' i. z ?Upon the broad veranda, demure my grandma sat,. [ p( Q% w* q* V' x" f( t; p
And hid her girlish blushes beneath her garden hat,
# C' r$ ~; g& J% j3 E) RHer dainty flowing muslins enfolded her like snow;0 Z2 \/ m) C' ~
Ah! Very sweet my grandma was, just sixty years ago.9 e/ t/ @2 T2 R8 i+ Y
With sweeping bow and fluttering heart he told his hopes and fears,9 t# q5 x) E1 S1 Z0 z6 j1 I
And grandma gently said him ‘Yea’, mid blushes, smiles and tears.

Good Father Flynn united them – just sixty years ago.

There’s a sound of mirthful revel in the dear old home to-night,
1 Q( j! X" x9 c. |- K0 J& S6 OWhere the merry young folk frolic ‘neath the incandescent light,/ W- Z* v6 ?: ?2 N" r, E- ?: m
Jazzing on the broad veranda, listening to the radio,
3 N. J, l8 H( u0 O ?& R5 }1 C& HKnowing wonders quite undreamt of in the days of long ago.
! i5 j' m4 C' D* O# `On the vine-enclosed veranda, sits my grandpa in his chair,5 l ~+ _- R6 f9 Y' T) }7 ]: b
And the flower-scented night winds stirs the white locks of his hair;
$ o) h; K" v8 M: p9 g) g fGrandma sits and smiles beside him, happy in the young folks glee,7 b( ^4 W9 \" f& W2 T2 O
Such a dainty dear old lady, ever young at heart is she.
0 A% \+ f; A; V+ g% i2 i" O v, @; O2 V; w+ k+ A
And the harvest of their labours in the moonlight stretches wide" ^4 v- E# ]3 d- Y$ V; h7 A- d$ ]8 V
All the land they’ve won and toiled for as they struggled side by side,
! Y# U4 `1 n8 s3 uIn their brave old eyes no shadow from the griefs of gone-by years,7 G1 z8 A7 [! @( G
For their hearts beat high within them – dauntless breed of pioneers.

On their long unbroken record of faith, sacrifice and love;
