The double-blossomed peach-trees with rosy bloom were gay Z7 D3 g' a0 s! @
When grandpa rode beneath them upon his courting way,
2 q+ o. k9 d* y# H* l& K! WFrom the white gate to the homestead they stretched in stately row,
" x' e- d- C+ \( {And showered his path with petals, just sixty years ago.& [( }5 |% u6 q4 w
His riding suit was spick and span, his jingling bridle rein,& u; D" d( w% }: Y; V8 y
Was polished to the limit, his top-boots shone again;; `: Y- [: } e2 w! }: T
A mass of youthful vanity, from curly head to toe,( d) w3 U( W/ r/ p* W4 Z' J
Was my darling gay young grandpa – just sixty years ago., v$ v P! z( K3 b/ t6 N! O) d
, l! _" L! z/ y$ z& L* N
Upon the broad veranda, demure my grandma sat, w; ?/ |6 _+ w6 E$ \
And hid her girlish blushes beneath her garden hat,
$ p s+ F! f/ y8 j ^- |Her dainty flowing muslins enfolded her like snow;
+ I* i- X6 J+ h" \0 i1 pAh! Very sweet my grandma was, just sixty years ago.) W0 e; l5 }* W
With sweeping bow and fluttering heart he told his hopes and fears,
* `9 V5 e0 M( ~. ~. m# w! D2 FAnd grandma gently said him ‘Yea’, mid blushes, smiles and tears.. w" G4 ?% |# g; _: ~' G- @- O
When the double-blossomed peach-trees with fruit were bending low,# a% h* v; I$ ]! z4 T: U
Good Father Flynn united them – just sixty years ago.8 t- q9 P& C* j6 q4 v

# n2 k" X# h0 l8 M& \- Y. {There’s a sound of mirthful revel in the dear old home to-night,4 M- L1 ^& _, z' k: G
Where the merry young folk frolic ‘neath the incandescent light,
5 o; l) b6 E" DJazzing on the broad veranda, listening to the radio,5 _# N9 f; k; h7 q' b, P
Knowing wonders quite undreamt of in the days of long ago.
% d" Y2 S* `! M) ~5 f9 uOn the vine-enclosed veranda, sits my grandpa in his chair,
6 n! e; ]( o* b2 GAnd the flower-scented night winds stirs the white locks of his hair;
. s* m+ [% ?* OGrandma sits and smiles beside him, happy in the young folks glee,
0 ^6 k- `6 c4 ?Such a dainty dear old lady, ever young at heart is she./ B0 v- d) V" @
$ N* T& D# _; r& X/ `; H' w) i$ rAnd the harvest of their labours in the moonlight stretches wide
5 s e) `) R& A5 P- IAll the land they’ve won and toiled for as they struggled side by side,
7 ?2 E: z2 ]0 EIn their brave old eyes no shadow from the griefs of gone-by years,' r; p+ v: s. A5 ]4 O% _
For their hearts beat high within them – dauntless breed of pioneers.# Q: p& a$ M0 f+ i: c
Hand in hand they sit together, while the angels smile above,9 K1 Z9 n& U, M( h, m, v" z. q
On their long unbroken record of faith, sacrifice and love;1 l% \ l) d$ _- z4 G2 f
From the double-blossomed peach trees come the petals falling slow,4 _1 v7 C! Y8 M: W! l& f6 Q) h
