The double-blossomed peach-trees with rosy bloom were gay# F+ R# S/ l& M5 j; b
When grandpa rode beneath them upon his courting way,5 r2 t; ^6 [* B. X4 M6 H& l
From the white gate to the homestead they stretched in stately row,- c+ }$ d& F& a8 |
And showered his path with petals, just sixty years ago.& v5 s, ?* T) F& l% S( _
His riding suit was spick and span, his jingling bridle rein,
4 n4 |9 j$ y9 l6 H/ _Was polished to the limit, his top-boots shone again;% b% B& P: |6 O3 _
A mass of youthful vanity, from curly head to toe,. c8 i0 k2 G* r" j' D4 J
Was my darling gay young grandpa – just sixty years ago.
" S) y/ t( n: o# w. `9 T% \. J' J( o1 M4 ]/ F3 Z7 Q
Upon the broad veranda, demure my grandma sat,
' k8 d5 K8 I5 a' U. U+ vAnd hid her girlish blushes beneath her garden hat,
$ ?5 m/ x% d* b% R4 DHer dainty flowing muslins enfolded her like snow;
- O# t* I" I" a; L" {/ NAh! Very sweet my grandma was, just sixty years ago.
+ E1 i# M* A0 x2 ^1 E2 o: S5 vWith sweeping bow and fluttering heart he told his hopes and fears,
% S* d8 e* ]& I, _And grandma gently said him ‘Yea’, mid blushes, smiles and tears.
6 g; a' z, s& nWhen the double-blossomed peach-trees with fruit were bending low,0 w" `1 j' ~! T
Good Father Flynn united them – just sixty years ago.

II! ]! ~9 P& @) ^6 }1 j' P/ X9 ?
There’s a sound of mirthful revel in the dear old home to-night,
) @7 H" U8 _1 DWhere the merry young folk frolic ‘neath the incandescent light,1 O& a n6 k' i. b, n
Jazzing on the broad veranda, listening to the radio, P* n/ Y2 b' [
Knowing wonders quite undreamt of in the days of long ago.
( e7 R5 c& t `& k+ R! HOn the vine-enclosed veranda, sits my grandpa in his chair,
; b' H) a: s# [1 F2 y) r( PAnd the flower-scented night winds stirs the white locks of his hair;2 ?" L. B4 R5 \9 b7 `) P6 o8 ]
Grandma sits and smiles beside him, happy in the young folks glee,) E4 d$ H/ ~. Q- p3 r2 B4 S/ G
Such a dainty dear old lady, ever young at heart is she.
; y& Y7 p& _9 O( @: h2 o. L9 N/ J5 I3 ]+ `7 [5 }
And the harvest of their labours in the moonlight stretches wide$ f: l: e5 K' _, e! x$ \
All the land they’ve won and toiled for as they struggled side by side,
, @3 q0 v- m6 v: l8 JIn their brave old eyes no shadow from the griefs of gone-by years,( g) c( _5 L4 ?# l8 g: i
For their hearts beat high within them – dauntless breed of pioneers.: _5 _( W( Q. ], i
Hand in hand they sit together, while the angels smile above,3 j& c' [( h' t g( W
On their long unbroken record of faith, sacrifice and love;
0 o, a- B( O& QFrom the double-blossomed peach trees come the petals falling slow,& B! u7 h V4 z$ h# I! z; o
Bringing sweet and fadeless memories of Sixty Years ago.
