The double-blossomed peach-trees with rosy bloom were gay- x: L+ K# A# I" e, g' t6 D" l
When grandpa rode beneath them upon his courting way,4 [* O% x( ^' m- z4 S! c
From the white gate to the homestead they stretched in stately row,
2 H4 L" {, ?$ z, T. GAnd showered his path with petals, just sixty years ago.
; ]% B$ V3 B9 V7 ]4 K6 K! I4 E( sHis riding suit was spick and span, his jingling bridle rein,
- d9 k0 Z3 |2 }7 }6 @% WWas polished to the limit, his top-boots shone again;9 P7 i0 h9 `8 d5 B2 |$ Y# a) I
A mass of youthful vanity, from curly head to toe,
# M; B0 d" E% R( ?& q9 |5 kWas my darling gay young grandpa – just sixty years ago.
3 R0 k. Q2 Y2 e# H$ V |9 U1 g5 }) f/ a# I* |' \ J/ L
Upon the broad veranda, demure my grandma sat,
0 Z8 r% ?# |. y4 P& n5 R/ ~And hid her girlish blushes beneath her garden hat,
; D+ w8 B1 f/ [: }2 ?$ }- cHer dainty flowing muslins enfolded her like snow;$ \( W/ A3 L0 e( U+ k
Ah! Very sweet my grandma was, just sixty years ago.
3 ^. p& M( t3 G. ~With sweeping bow and fluttering heart he told his hopes and fears,
4 }& y! N! @4 e; k, J5 mAnd grandma gently said him ‘Yea’, mid blushes, smiles and tears.
7 I/ |2 T! M! m) r; c/ MWhen the double-blossomed peach-trees with fruit were bending low,
6 O2 m! T! J) @4 D" i4 \0 u' iGood Father Flynn united them – just sixty years ago.9 W6 p/ L) u7 z, x

There’s a sound of mirthful revel in the dear old home to-night,
6 _" ?& l( i% t; u v% p0 zWhere the merry young folk frolic ‘neath the incandescent light,
$ }' Q+ e! Q" S1 L; |Jazzing on the broad veranda, listening to the radio,
' b0 V4 R4 O5 Y. F- lKnowing wonders quite undreamt of in the days of long ago.
. ^* Y9 _. ?; b4 S" v2 ROn the vine-enclosed veranda, sits my grandpa in his chair,
) C, z6 Y+ d- g7 @+ yAnd the flower-scented night winds stirs the white locks of his hair;
( @4 g+ i: r" XGrandma sits and smiles beside him, happy in the young folks glee,* T4 ~! p9 w; D. q
Such a dainty dear old lady, ever young at heart is she.0 k6 b5 A+ n% _5 ~ n
% x! }+ B: e8 o" [: J# u+ ^And the harvest of their labours in the moonlight stretches wide7 Y' E+ A& w% ?8 ~; G+ w9 @8 c9 ]
All the land they’ve won and toiled for as they struggled side by side,
1 e0 E' I7 v& ~" s: T# v) HIn their brave old eyes no shadow from the griefs of gone-by years,
: E3 F, K5 j# QFor their hearts beat high within them – dauntless breed of pioneers.3 s8 t1 g6 H* ~% P9 l7 k
Hand in hand they sit together, while the angels smile above,2 ]. I) q" b+ b
On their long unbroken record of faith, sacrifice and love;2 D# E: `0 H; @+ h! S, W9 g8 e6 l
From the double-blossomed peach trees come the petals falling slow,6 w7 i4 A0 H* E& `2 E+ r
Bringing sweet and fadeless memories of Sixty Years ago.
