As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. # L+ h! _+ V) K% D5 U# X/ u8 ~

: h/ q3 }$ {. }! H3 MReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
% d$ g( a) v' w/ d: @. M0 r•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment$ e  [% t6 h* \1 @- m$ d5 X7 D6 F
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements1 V8 B& R4 l4 D5 Z5 o* T
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module( }4 h5 n& F7 Y
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's: g9 G3 H1 O* o; [3 ~3 L: v
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers
# e3 j9 N5 R; \! r' w5 e) JJob Requirements:  
' {& [) A, `/ E•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
1 ^# E3 t0 U) R" t: o. \•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
# _1 f( w" h* D•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience( B: l; a$ ]  ~
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
' P3 C- I' f: B& y: w# d. L•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets! D+ j  C9 M. Q" ^9 t" `
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
; J) l. [2 i2 b; M! J•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
# s# [0 |0 [* M2 ~' D•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills9 X# |4 M2 i0 U4 x
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
