This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.

* {6 S8 L* v2 J' GAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. : y* M) P3 R9 j1 b/ \8 Y

Z2 p, u+ r$ V+ Y( `& VReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
- a$ w2 x. J7 O& b& N3 u•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
9 y/ A: Z# T) Z2 _, S/ a$ R4 X•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements. A% g: v$ e+ N
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module& b/ k! e. y  r+ W6 y4 t
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's: V5 m; D: g; k1 P8 Y0 E# N, j3 K
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers
/ d3 y& N" P' J: a2 ]Job Requirements:  
" R9 @. Y. a. x" J' S& c% V/ ~; g* W•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
8 t8 a4 \7 Q& F- @% X3 ?5 ~•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
4 u  n" M4 `9 ^7 ^4 B- t" t8 L•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
* e0 c! i1 ?6 s3 X; L! T; P8 Y% I•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
/ o) r2 q% x* t•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets5 U$ U) b& v  D0 r  O8 v
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
$ B/ H: y7 L) u8 y" a0 V. v1 o9 K- K•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST+ {) S1 y2 C- k/ ^
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills; s( c9 `( p. u8 S# t
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary:  $27.00 hourly# `4 r% P3 x4 f
