As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

M9 I; q/ w/ SReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
1 S/ {% X+ ?7 C c+ g• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
0 {$ M) `7 t, o" s) [• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
8 c2 {. s, x1 l( }$ ~9 g- @, q4 @• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module, n: S& u& v( C, j6 e1 t( H, u8 y
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
) \$ l4 B5 I5 _ g, d& d• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers ' w8 x) [' z1 Q3 |, W
Job Requirements:
( i' m, L. e- u( L) C4 y/ b• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline$ A% P0 q. R9 B1 Y1 h
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset9 o4 P" H# }5 @. S0 d: J& |
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience! P$ H; C/ B$ B
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
" Z% f3 |* _( A$ P5 V( m7 g• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
1 O# G4 l6 U9 u) B& y• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
, k6 o r$ l& ?• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. & o8 d$ I9 F h8 H

Salary: $27.00 hourly1 z* p0 | T5 E+ R1 u3 E
