6 C. o% s6 l+ S/ U& V7 y( p: IAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.
( f0 B+ L: j9 h- H/ _9 K# `: l; { 8 f% p  _& {" m/ y' d
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:& f. {3 K: r/ D8 j! Z3 z
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment+ d/ F; E+ K' X% @1 y1 i
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
9 o9 d8 q( q# j- U; x+ i' Z•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
, t" _, m* x# {•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's0 L) M" i8 A- [; k, z
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
6 u- A4 G2 n0 u2 o6 J* j•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset, M2 F/ e# W- @4 N# u  e1 E
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience1 g1 Q- P! W; V, f) T$ x6 ~+ g
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems6 h9 F! S2 i# i5 m9 r
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets: R( e: ^( X2 d; `8 \7 C. g
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies9 b$ p. ?' E6 Y2 W
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
/ z, t7 M# F4 Y" {+ _•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* }4 N! s) G. a( G; \1 cHours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. $ i5 E  i6 X$ M6 O

Salary:  $27.00 hourly
