The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)3 _) M/ F: i" R, N: Y
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department( ? X: \2 f, V. W
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals5 }$ U" e, R! z) c# ]; m
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored" Z' t3 g' D, p+ o7 t! ~
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals: X X1 G o6 G A1 [
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)# q' Z# ]$ {5 U+ C6 w9 k/ E7 M9 i
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

& T3 `( {& O- H6 b3 K- g* Q3. Tracking System3 I: t D$ g+ C/ I- G) N3 r7 |
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s : U9 ?7 ^' W$ d4 y" n
1 z+ ~- y1 t4 J4 K7 MCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
