2 L4 J2 b) C" [" o* AThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

8 W9 F+ }- n- q# @1 K, w) ~1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
# b- _% E1 z) N9 k• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
% t$ l# ?2 `; j" u! P# S• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.
$ \) u' ~9 {' w( C) J% g, s
+ p. x. o: S/ Y& `% |1 n2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

0 H9 q" }4 u7 @# R" n3. Tracking System
* b9 V" V6 A$ ?) S3 w• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

, X, r: u5 O! C, XCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

' N9 z* ]: D! I! ]This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
