bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
4 X* m$ @: _7 b" M9 M2 semployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
) K7 Y% @7 O6 S: w1 L t Tprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
* ~; ?7 }7 i3 Zstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.; z7 [: h" \2 r& v" M
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our1 m, i4 L3 w& M
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve# A+ V3 I1 V# M7 Z
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
3 W8 O' C0 \' w o' l$ A4 @VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
4 P1 @. J; _6 z6 C/ nnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
; R; w; V7 c6 Hyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose7 H4 c1 P$ C; F. @ m; f: ?& q. ]! j
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment9 ~$ A9 `$ u1 A, Z* r* o
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
8 W5 E/ u3 F- [1 Lexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and f& f4 }# ~6 N2 D7 ]
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
, I. V+ p2 M1 @! |+ Y2 O/ A% ^6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.2 K0 v9 Q- J3 ?0 {' a ^1 D
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
! }* F+ L6 A8 M, CYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
, J0 F- n! S* w. g- Z8 @" ZThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of. t- E9 O% W U- C: W' c. b, Y

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
$ |5 A# S8 h# a7 l/ {! ~• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the! C: @9 ]; P* z; q* d' ]
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
4 w9 X- E2 f8 t% awilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
, @- k4 _. l2 W9 s @# ^) z. R• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
9 I4 w7 Z5 W; [# q, L2 H) `being realistic to each youth participant
/ }# S; O: ]# r% Q) x2 k• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
9 z1 m$ t7 }3 c1 P6 l7 \youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to9 v9 n4 [' c! v+ A% n: b( d
each participant) g& Y# v* @6 h! R
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of5 S3 n+ M0 v' g. {% O6 d+ w
cover letters and resumes etc.
, b! E4 ^, v) X& y• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work: g9 k, ]; p: x& e
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the* I# r( M, a) L3 G
placements. w8 \7 Q- H* z W2 J% c7 }
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
" p* p" G* ~2 j2 G% n h" ?the process, and supporting the youth where needed
3 `7 {6 B2 X! N6 ?• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
9 Q u3 M3 f6 K5 Z" D" Ris being fulfilled for each youth- E# ]' d/ ]2 L% \( R
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
% c R; X4 |2 U( w/ N4 _related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
9 v: D5 V. B" M2 o2 g, q0 b w4 l) I/ M1 _• Other tasks as they arise within the position
# p E& N! \" ^9 T3 TExperience Required: Employment Developer
; V. ^* {2 ^' ?! F4 E: U2 F Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
) A6 C! D1 ?: ^ A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
& S0 p2 ~5 q7 A. j% m' ]4 i. m Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed

 Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth

 Strong leadership and active listening skills/ |8 s/ F$ _, E; N
