The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will1 h9 F. H) T- Y+ i
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
% u5 O; X2 W7 A+ Temployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day5 R+ l8 `2 g8 }
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
9 {2 u* h6 m% @. P. tstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
E6 C& n. p* w1 u5 ?+ @YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
) R4 y, s o9 ~mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve* n& |$ t V9 \. P
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
) E( x7 S# a( D7 {% LVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills* S' h- C) Y M$ Z: }! v" r8 S
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
A5 C6 |, o: L" v; D0 t7 `youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose y( z5 ]& J1 z6 k& t
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
# J* n7 {( x- {; d& T0 O: jdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and/ ?, O4 x8 |4 b: I3 ]
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
/ D$ d- ]# h% U9 \$ Mwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a6 ]6 W2 y1 |0 c2 ^# q
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.% v E! |0 C2 K0 j
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central3 {3 l) M- d# A v" M9 a
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
) d7 l5 w" h; ], V5 P& M' |- H. ]/ cThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

. k( y5 Z+ r0 u- }• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
) g6 F5 m& ^) D' a% g/ U `community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
0 l7 ~) v) f" u7 L3 }willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
% m7 M, P$ }7 o" j# ~• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as6 d# v9 A, k8 l9 r- \$ i
being realistic to each youth participant
' G9 r! T5 K: ?5 s) l; g% g• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the' c9 d3 U; q- r" o% w
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to' Y; K z- o! m! }* p9 T8 _6 o
each participant2 l' J c; v! ^4 b7 E3 i
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of" S% A: L3 |4 f
cover letters and resumes etc.
6 F2 p3 C# z9 M8 u) b• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
+ N/ m) z0 p, N, Uexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the3 G1 c4 Q8 F$ C2 \4 V3 _
placements
) i) v; O2 [% K% P3 {2 _8 e7 t• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
. i4 [* R1 g* L6 gthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
; ^$ a0 T0 q$ _• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
t$ } }* H, i' Gis being fulfilled for each youth
7 O: Y1 V: [1 e7 R; n3 e• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
3 w3 \* x' [& nrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
; F$ _4 c: d7 W5 u+ N7 C4 P Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted- w9 f! z2 T+ _4 o# h' U. M u0 b1 K
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required. {8 r3 `; g/ o W
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed9 {$ E/ X% p9 o
to success.1 a/ Q$ {# A6 H4 k& ^3 r, g
 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.9 _9 N" o- o5 v& r
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and b4 X$ k" a G' |4 J/ S" T$ B- R
time management.
7 T4 l' W6 l) o& d. h Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections0 ], F% E" a: U# A9 j* r
quickly3 h/ L/ d t; ]5 y* T
 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth+ U6 ^* R% n6 L+ \
 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth$ `. L3 u" C+ U
at risk as it pertains to employment. c4 k0 A# e) G: P" ^
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
