+ u. E# r& p/ B  }The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
0 P% `$ y+ A: Nbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
. y' E; J, R! u) F0 k9 vemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
! p$ K' u2 C5 J3 G' A5 ]program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
8 L3 c0 r( y+ g" {% [stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
' s  T. m4 V# j+ f# }1 c; {mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
$ J2 I! o& f: p: U* G5 ]VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
9 ?8 K) I) \# A) Znecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
$ Z5 t5 a, n! f) Syouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
+ q+ Z6 x! I+ Bparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
6 O; o7 O8 l/ h1 o7 Ndevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
! ?: o) A6 F4 w, |4 ]! K) Z; G; M2 Vexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
3 a* X$ A" h, K7 z, `& `wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

( E6 Z( Q% K# I6 }! W2 V# s2 C• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
$ A1 L3 G8 k# p8 S: Zwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
/ r+ n  D. v) M; C4 D7 B• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
$ Y4 [+ V$ ]: t• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
) m0 U' S- j! n3 E! scover letters and resumes etc.
+ [4 `' O. \$ z$ M• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
* v* P! w! K! u9 c; W  `$ V6 _7 I6 Xexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
) M  [' U( e8 }; b1 ^• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
/ r2 l" \4 \7 x! X0 J) H( rthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
1 @- O: w1 x2 _• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
- j6 X7 M0 g0 C; vrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

# t4 U# H1 t$ `1 \% K Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
7 P6 P, V  S; v* F; {8 f Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
* t) j: Z0 L6 \7 E2 U% e$ g1 Wto success.
 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
9 i6 v1 d+ g% @8 X+ H6 O% I Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
quickly
 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
at risk as it pertains to employment
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
 Strong leadership and active listening skills
 Ability to motivate youth
