bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
% k# Z. x1 T8 g- m; j" Uemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
9 j |7 N% L2 l5 X# D: [program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
( s6 W7 y, z% W6 q' P- D4 S% zstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.5 {% ?- R% E8 B. Y/ @
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our8 J4 Q: H0 m* U& A" s* u
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
% Y8 D+ E1 \( y: o5 ~3 r: Aconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the; b2 l+ \8 t6 A3 \9 Q+ `
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
) V) X( @/ v9 t8 d' [7 z5 |! G0 Dnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
; y$ }3 q% M1 Y4 Y. J: h4 ?1 b- Pyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
9 N- H. i% r1 S/ \1 K( W; r* Y+ Xparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment6 y, {+ u m, p- b
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
+ x. F& W6 y% Q& ^, Jexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and, \$ h V' P# D/ [
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
) G3 m4 ?# p: [9 A5 }6 a. z6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.9 P+ K) x2 o; A6 X$ D
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central P8 A+ C5 O( g; I$ n8 i
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
* Y1 g! [; O; w3 }8 O& [$ _: w5 s# xThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
3 V n1 u F5 f3 j* a$ jextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
1 v; H/ [$ P9 d% n" B) b• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
$ _( k; [& W6 f2 zcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
- A$ b: k- s- s7 L9 gwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities7 q% a# \) P1 g6 t. q% o, s
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
* D# H6 Q' x2 `4 K& ybeing realistic to each youth participant( `6 k! ]! ^7 ]- b) O3 H. M
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
5 O) S3 y$ G/ P" S* K; R4 @youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to+ A: a6 x1 P: n2 E% A. y* c4 b
each participant
- \4 O* S& U; Z9 ^• Assist youth with employment development including the development of+ S, O9 k& X. ~/ F! r3 G+ }
cover letters and resumes etc.! V2 T4 R K3 w+ Y6 J
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
" i6 ^; L( W' rexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
, @" V" a2 G& w' Y7 H+ Uplacements$ I' q9 V+ g5 [4 H
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
$ }# n! x/ W: Y4 {the process, and supporting the youth where needed
4 e( Q2 n- @. f/ [8 Q- p/ y5 G• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
1 K8 s4 t- n. Ais being fulfilled for each youth/ Y; E9 J& @3 i( l4 [
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
4 @! V9 V; \0 L1 ] e1 Krelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer7 F# O( x3 n% `3 Z3 n* v- h \; f
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
! T& g3 v" |7 e8 w2 N A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
