- Several key ministers keep their pre-election jobs: Energy Minister Mel Knight, Treasury Board President Lloyd Snelgrove, Environment Minister Rob Renner, Sustainable Resource Development Minister Ted Morton, Agriculture Minister George Groeneveld, Advanced Education and Technology Minister Doug Horner and Municipal Affairs Minister Ray Danyluk. His file, however, becomes diminished, as Stelmach creates a new ministry of housing and urban affairs, going to Calgarian Yvonne Fritz./ J: p3 S' U5 W, l

- The massive Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture portfolio gets split in two among Calgary MLAs. Former associate minister for tourism Cindy Ady takes Tourism, Parks and Recreation. Another newly elected MLA, Lindsay Blackett becomes minister for Culture and Community Spirit - and Alberta's first-ever black cabinet member.( K* x# Z4 r) l. A' K

- Infrastructure and Transportation is also halved. Rural MLA Luke Ouellette keeps the transportation part of his former job, while infrastructure goes to Jack Hayden, another rural Stelmach loyalist.4 {; g; Q) r) t4 w+ s, M
5 j* q* X/ \' f9 a* {6 I y- There are several new junior players called "parliamentary assistants," who serve as understudies to the actual ministers. Four Edmonton MLAs become assistants: Thomas Lukaszuk in municipal affairs, and newcomer Raj Sherman in health. It's expected they'll get a seat at cabinet meetings, but cannot vote on cabinet decisions.

) r0 n; j8 B# ^Evans, the Sherwood Park MLA, inherits the finance post from retired veteran Lyle Oberg. It's a beefed-up job with the "enterprise" component, which will see Evans responsible for drumming up more economic development for the booming province.

$ @( G1 `. z% O2 b8 Y4 ^5 FShe and Banff's Janis Tarchuk remain in cabinet, and will be joined by Calgary MLAs Ady and Fritz, who were added to Stelmach's cabinet last summer as associate ministers. They will be joined by Klimchuk, Redford, and Red Deer-North MLA Mary Anne Jablonski, who gets Seniors and Community Supports. |
