You are required to know and demonstrate:

The road test will run the full time unless the Examiner feels that your safety, or the safety of others, is at risk.

Who is my Examiner?

) I( G4 D1 |, v6 A· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested./ s, ]6 d! r# O' V0 t
· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training' S* S( p: C. a- F3 {+ N% \$ Y+ c# h
and Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road
6 G' S: |) D4 L ~" [5 ?7 _( stests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the0 |- [& |# k6 `' ]% O6 B t

· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)! M/ l$ ?4 i" w+ @6 x9 j
then you must also provide acceptable photo ID.( Y* T& \* v* X8 v" F
· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the
( J7 u" |! D7 E, t+ a: aweather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).
+ r9 Y1 h! e1 [3 Y, }· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid- i1 \. u0 R: c8 E5 r
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.

The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers

The Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to; N0 G% A/ J4 \3 X
assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and
9 [' U1 m B9 ^ @& zdemonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield
, r0 g4 t% v& p" I3 wwipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions2 b, t. i: T- h/ B0 g$ g5 M
that you will be given during the test.

2 r. {2 }" g% s0 U# j· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.
$ O# X$ O. N: e+ t! X; Y D· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.2 _) z6 K) S9 Z3 s: w
You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not
( C- |5 G0 r! X6 O9 P& T ~; Ystopping at a stop sign).
8 b. f4 O$ U/ j$ F$ ]9 X· The Examiner will not try to trick you.
- E2 b- H5 A9 k$ t0 E) X· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
( A( H4 a o8 ~0 w3 U$ {4 f· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as- r4 K( o" H+ c: f9 C* |- d, X
the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.

The Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the
1 S/ r. U% A. H' a. e# O2 LTest Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any
3 L. |+ l7 Y1 f7 _" r' fAlberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this
