Other costs of leaving have also increased and the university 1 q0 J* V$ A6 x5 G; s" n: g
increases the tuition fee by few percent every year and international 6 o) y8 Q0 z# R: |3 [* q1 m; G) @
differential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this,
4 g& d; N7 _1 B5 |6 Z1 D2 Kthe fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers + A$ [0 ~8 i# V/ @( q% e' |, [- ?$ D3 ~
and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were

While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has 8 S: I8 O# O( M# S& m4 _" `; n
increased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
* H1 B/ A6 c: v. o% x; }exactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our 0 L: }: K/ k5 O: q. L# V& ?
admission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students / G/ A9 L( h1 v* h+ q9 K7 z, w
=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after 1 k* ]# Z2 A% o* \* @
tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just

us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was

Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants
$ P. K9 j5 O2 _& y/ H6 _" hfrom different governmental and non governmental sources and graduate 0 Y: ~ i3 }+ A4 j2 W" v% T) U$ E1 W
students are the main pillars of research work at the university.9 u' a* H ]/ F0 `
) G0 H0 a( _% }My objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
% e$ y+ e w# ^* P5 Ois to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and
* E8 b' H" ^4 p0 v. L: g, vespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take

: H7 e/ K$ ^6 c. dinitiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
2 S0 T* G6 H! {; d% c; C# \. zgraduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?( B, N4 H- c: y9 U2 g! |
