The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers
What activities will I do during my road test?

· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training$ Q4 N- N" S P& w6 `# ?5 X
and Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road
: Y8 B# ]6 e8 vtests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the
7 g3 Q; l3 w" \0 d% Sroad test.

· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)

· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the
5 K5 G9 `2 P6 m, E0 |1 V9 s1 R3 V nweather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).! \4 i+ w7 d/ K* O d2 \
· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid1 |' T0 j* Y$ F9 _! M& V% f4 [* Y
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.

/ A# E* z1 J% q4 k9 s' k. T" z& }assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and0 R* U$ U9 ^- `
demonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield
' }9 G1 m6 z! Jwipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions6 f+ J' v. M/ h1 r. b8 h
that you will be given during the test.5 c3 V, V3 H+ z3 D- r3 O4 W2 H

· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.. E' j6 z; z5 Q. l( o' ]
· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.- g3 X$ [. ~& i" G$ Q6 K4 s
You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not
9 L7 f( f; D- p) p4 Estopping at a stop sign).
; c; b; B+ L0 ]+ g· The Examiner will not try to trick you.
5 i4 h4 G" E; t ]- ]) d· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
& I5 e* F3 M+ M8 W7 @. b· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as

What do I do when I pass my road test?

Test Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any" n: f2 V% A. m" f7 Y5 C
Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this- N+ w4 W. q- s+ ?
