Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS: _" i' C0 j5 O
• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
. q4 ^$ G1 P4 z. G* x) o• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
! K* ] M- m8 E$ T• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.- \/ B3 L! \( Q! H" e) N* H6 t
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ( F0 s" u- Q* R& ~) T/ x
and traffic conditions.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.0 d( L1 o+ O ?" @7 v9 m! M
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability ( `8 a/ R( `/ {! p$ @1 n1 N
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger " D- m: \& t, ?% c' m

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
' O; B# o! g3 l3 p• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
) H3 ], y; Q! u4 M• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
R& K3 M/ t* E; s5 `• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) * [. h5 g p* K; o' N& F1 w
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
+ g! J) P0 _, L) `1 `- ~• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
6 R+ E2 ]. I5 pThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly; H" Z8 N# N3 }- `' [) A

Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
