Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

4 Q: b+ e$ A, n1 rFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

1 p; z/ u  @  ^+ ~0 IJOB REQUIREMENTS:
, }! ^. ~4 ]- i/ Y( ~4 f•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ [# B& S  m. e: U% e) D# k( @•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
- \9 e% q( U8 x1 b- _% Yto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
6 x. a3 _$ |$ l8 ?9 Q•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
0 r( w# s  ~" k; H8 s( S•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
& D/ H- Q6 X8 t•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
( h% C7 a% m6 _$ ~•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
- d- a# q* `5 A; x, H6 J0 P3 zvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
, f2 ]$ o' b. D, C•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
: X! ^/ D7 W: ]; @' F4 ^•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
; U3 @: I: m' V1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
2 Z& W& m5 [" v7 k  u' ~Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
