0 }3 M( \9 i/ v! ?! yEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
; q4 _/ I. g1 |2 u& s( _•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
. b& X3 p+ ]8 g6 P" s1 h•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
( v3 |/ }1 {1 x•        Adhere to schedules.
6 k! _; I/ G8 E# I1 ?•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

% h9 L: b9 l- ^  p5 P/ d" ]4 o•        Provide excellent customer service.

$ K7 @9 N( |6 l! QJOB REQUIREMENTS:
0 `! J8 q! h3 Y  a3 s6 \•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
! k8 t  J  I) R" ]# W•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
% }' L2 ^' M" ?+ H- G4 Y3 Iof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
, @7 @3 R( F. U- m•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
% ^6 h7 ^2 r) h0 d( w•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
  y* ^6 ]( _+ l$ j4 dshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
# f  d* u  q& B" X  d•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
' `& R& F4 o" X) q•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

8 i4 j- }- N  R' O0 I& a; CVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
8 c7 B* E" j+ \4 l7 J* rTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
% T/ U- D" |0 X1 D2 g% ?- WPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
