Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.- N4 F6 q9 R P$ [
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ' B0 {/ ^, O7 ~5 a# Z. \, F, n+ d% ~; _
and traffic conditions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
2 V! h" C4 j9 C! M• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.; [9 x% X1 L3 K5 H$ D$ j1 r
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability , p' b/ f" Q$ S* v6 g: b( U7 [) Z
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
" w2 g1 g W5 n. K E, X+ |• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
4 L" O$ G* W* x: A* ~• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.$ C8 I9 u/ ?$ J4 Q" V) u+ _
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
7 r9 g4 m% {4 l; b, cshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. / h; R; i# {: C; S7 s k
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
9 M2 b/ D6 y+ X3 g$ h7 q4 o( Dvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

$ C5 y8 u9 H1 g/ ?6 _• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly. p% i9 p J$ j
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly' W( ~ a4 G( p7 _' `

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly4 R$ A# N! J% {
Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
