`9 {% s: L1 e4 }6 m$ fEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
; f) H) O( I5 z+ L1 ^: M# Y, H• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
8 A9 Z0 E/ D7 Z• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
3 P( d7 O, }7 m% t" Z( M3 s• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 5 s8 ?+ D9 \2 ]
and traffic conditions.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 4 z$ e# X9 K' m) o

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
! O& J H2 x/ Y( M% S7 {6 F+ w5 p• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 9 t1 h6 C. N$ J w5 K( F# [
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 7 O. D; U! j( T% {4 j4 u9 i4 i

9 K8 h- [5 H( g/ F• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
$ U( S- F5 I3 k }• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
* |& f0 y/ b2 q* j/ D' J+ U; ^; P• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training., W9 S/ ~ S9 h
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) - y/ M6 G" }) V* n7 K
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 2 X6 D( b; U1 O d4 b j5 {
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
9 f+ h" d7 ~, j* Rvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

HOURS OF WORK:
9 a0 t& h4 x* ]Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 9 x. P. z* H+ }5 I4 D
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly) [1 Z- w1 E7 i1 h, u' O
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly# b. k# w. M* G4 R1 a( P
% D4 o( I! ^+ PSALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004 ; I" w3 S0 j% f9 a4 ~0 o. w
Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly
