. g" {% ]: ~; D+ r" P7 RJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
+ y6 Z% m2 J- F! lCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

" s1 l: h$ z/ r* R( P* e3 J- E3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
' n8 y+ |# w+ J2 z) W$ ^adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
5 T( A0 d1 b) Q7 {6 kreferenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/

7 u5 k6 s7 F6 @# T: J; \$ N4 [" e+ O To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
' c2 Y2 ^  G: E# A- Y6 q: L% }% ominimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
; I, }* v5 ^/ u6 c" k5 h7 n8 A& Lfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
6 R6 i) ]1 X, Jof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
7 T4 V& `$ h; H2 y5 a. X8 K7 V+ @/ U
. V$ d% x$ g; Q' V5 [/ L11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
4 D% P# |; {$ Athe course of an election/referendum.

7 V* c- N6 {& i$ g' X) f12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
' e+ H  t9 n7 L8 E8 G, h4 Lprocess is in place.

* s" R9 }0 w% d- K! ?6 j13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
0 ?7 {% {; w& K* j( qof activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

, ~# R! O. A' j! j' R15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
% H! B6 a+ O2 P+ d  Q& R" Rfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
+ q* d, J" ~- X) _8 I3 S# U! WUnion member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.
; J6 |3 Z9 [0 r5 I) m+ I& W
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
& f2 m6 H' E- m7 |any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
. i% l; w) E7 f, ]* V: h0 z8 i6 nwith the Students' Union.

! e+ q5 B9 F6 N$ n4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
