& C. w; r9 e8 G# J8 c/ QSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
) z3 P& r; I6 U/ Z4 f! R- e•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
' X, r6 @$ |/ I- o. k; n•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

" Z  e, X) q( a1 Z3 y•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
% ~' e; p9 U3 p8 j7 e: b•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
5 f5 i1 P' z* {•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
, ]6 H. i) w' V: T•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
5 T  e# e: j% q9 V* b•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
" U7 `  S8 e% g( Z. e$ c; W3 \•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
; }  s$ a7 I: P+ ]' z•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
/ O' H# p( ]6 Q- A•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
5 I% Y# F  Q  S0 W& H3 |•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
0 ~1 L: B5 T: t$ L/ H' g2 t7 C•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
" y( o5 g4 s+ Q4 b6 J  S: _. Q•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

9 ^# Q5 ?, l: n& A: ~/ v3 V•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
9 Q  N' \: C( o8 B' z) m2 jJob Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
: x0 e* u+ j8 A* ?; t•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
( {% }9 T0 l' p  U, [HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
