. s; ?$ H( b" i5 A5 @Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
) e8 u1 U1 d# V0 I5 T( B3 u•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
' v& E3 b: b2 S8 c9 E6 hParks, Asset Management & Public Works
: W3 _0 `+ C/ \' F•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
! ~: _; {4 d8 R. V2 H3 i•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
5 d: ]( y+ {+ d. W" p8 n•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
0 f3 J% E/ D+ E. jRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
, p' S4 Q; j! |* o" A+ _% N2 u•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
. r# T. U! n& G0 G, G+ ]' f•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
1 s- }1 G1 |) E$ b•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
* @4 g5 U$ v5 V$ Y•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
" x; J3 |4 r" {1 j, H- c•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:

- D% m) E1 I4 ~•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
) Z" T! D, H& N: c9 h2 Q+ m5 m% aJob Requirements:
/ r8 R# S& G: i•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
% w3 s/ H9 \- c9 W' y2 \$ k7 A•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
6 m7 a3 e0 J/ p: {•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
  t5 c: q6 _" x- bHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
# \3 q! x  ]7 ^" q  q3 CSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
