Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:. T+ O4 a1 s2 T% `# A
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
. u# E3 z! J9 g6 D# P$ f• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.+ {: p, C2 t' d! @0 P2 `+ e# c1 z! |
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
- W9 X- _2 T5 k- k• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

, P% I. }& x+ W/ Q6 _• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.

• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
' Z2 s& ]' a0 v( r• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.' a" z6 O5 Q) p$ l: ?6 b3 v+ s# p5 U
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
, t# N1 b" @3 X" \8 ^6 n! ]' G• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.7 s% E2 M9 _+ F }0 U) c( y
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.; C, r# ^7 Y$ N+ H6 C) E# p
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
* z; o" T9 b) X• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
2 I" B' |/ o+ f8 r/ }: ]• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.$ [: d+ p% I+ b8 q
Job Requirements:
7 c7 b* B5 P/ G/ v G$ @• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
9 j* W/ S1 E! d* l# \ V( v3 v/ J• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.6 a/ U% d4 M: U- @
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.# f/ Z- v& x' E m
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.: i6 f2 P0 d" h$ D D
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.% q& s& L! y! w; n
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
& ^, O- S b+ z& j• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
+ Y, v% b+ i# n* b8 J, HHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
1 G! h+ D/ f' D3 S7 w6 vSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
