Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
2 i- V( x( \- @) H( D& h" LDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works4 V, [8 \. I* l7 H# `
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.: H1 t/ G& ]# h6 _' c1 t9 h* b& a
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
5 V- T6 X9 u8 ?. ?1 d• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.* N4 M5 Y. x% b% D
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
6 I% y2 ~" s- V" | s• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. ; Z7 J0 a* f9 a) A8 Z$ g! E1 D
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.2 R ~5 H1 P9 b" b
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.$ w( j" v! o( y: B/ A' ?9 e
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.) q1 W0 T1 A+ D8 Q1 G8 K# v" o
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.% r; x! ^& \ L$ |! X4 z. l6 r) Q

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
8 L; }2 n4 A3 g( d7 d• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.# W8 M8 ~0 n$ Y( E
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).; v1 y1 R: `& X
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.! F3 Q/ G) Z8 k+ c5 h# B+ \
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
/ C5 P, s b$ m4 B3 f' F• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

- e6 L7 W3 n0 {6 r• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
+ ]; t3 V) l ^/ n, T" _4 ~0 h• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
! F& C* H9 Z }) s+ E. f/ Y• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.; l! j$ A# Q9 I. {" N
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.: @2 T1 E5 K7 G) M
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

Job Requirements:
# Q' {( | P* r$ A! \• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.( t) I. E( a! d: w7 |& E
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.0 C) ^$ \& z* B
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
: p5 l+ {$ p' ^+ `7 s9 ^6 H8 e/ p) S• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.4 x! E) F, D( ?& ?2 p; p
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.' f$ K7 H, l, D! Z
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
: _" D/ E* s; }; _6 ~• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
. r- ]- Q2 ~6 N" KHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
