1 ~) _% s- q) k1 H+ Y: J( Q- mSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
& F+ E  v5 V. r•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
5 I. q4 Y* ?$ x( b" x. n# f•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
4 p# _  D' J0 B: Z+ H9 H; a0 s8 |•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
3 D6 E  V4 G$ F6 N1 q•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
5 R! |- S; p% [8 u7 U7 s9 P•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
6 R5 D- c4 ]3 @9 g0 n•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
7 G% {0 i' W, @* l" Y% YRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
. T1 `" e- M% y+ [7 m•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
1 y' G6 `( X5 t7 u; {" z& b•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
% e* `. D  Q9 K•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
6 W5 Y* t) t# v* i•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
( W/ I5 K) W- x! R& V$ Z•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

2 h2 o- z# m& l! j  W" N•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
6 ^5 T' e% R+ E% i$ u7 \& y•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
. ]: T3 g+ }" x5 C; N•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
' e& ?& L) `, K/ h4 [' P•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
+ [4 {3 G% ]9 o6 C  B% v•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
2 e0 \1 g3 v  G0 z•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
$ J: A: X8 t; j0 T. `HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
