! P5 H- z2 h9 R  d/ c# ?" YSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
9 a) @7 Y7 n6 r) y/ S•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
; z& H5 s, c+ t9 o- K. C# y% S•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
$ {+ W. V. c1 Y# `: J. ~2 h' S•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
2 K5 [/ s7 [6 a7 e2 W•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
5 J% ^3 v% z8 }) W0 Z•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
4 K- v! z4 N* r( n2 V6 F•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

) c3 J7 ~9 d: q9 N5 L! B•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
% k' M- o# a5 t; ?•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
' V9 `5 H; y7 n! O0 X( t•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
8 ~0 I: ]& s* y•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
8 M5 R* k4 m- ~( @4 uSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
