TORONTO -- Sun Life Financial Inc. said Monday it is retiring the Clarica brand as part of a revised marketing strategy.

There are almost two million Clarica policy- and accountholders in Canada, said Sun Life. Clarica also has a sales force of about 3,500.

" [7 n5 [+ a' @# h" n# NThe company said the changes will be completed by the first quarter of 2008. Sun Life will incur a $40-million to $50-million charge in the first quarter of 2007.
"The Sun Life name is also well known and highly respected in many other markets around the world," said Sun Life chief executive Don Stewart.

"Offering our customers, advisors and employees a more powerful brand promise will reinforce Sun Life's position in Canada, and strengthen our platform for continued growth internationally."
