8 E8 G% R! a3 a& d: s3 wFred Lindsay told Sun Media yesterday plans are in the works to increase the number of RCMP officers and special constables patrolling Alberta roads this year.

" l+ C3 n' j+ O0 f$ w% mThough any moves have to be approved in the province's budget, Lindsay said he's looking at boosting the ranks of the Mounties patrolling rural Alberta, to help curb a flood of urban organized crime groups, who are moving their operations to rural areas where there is less of a police presence. ) o8 i; h9 h: [7 P& k/ s0 E/ C9 c
2 P" R( ^* X* Q+ t b: G# }: _Chop shops, where stolen cars are stripped for parts, and marijuana grow-ops have all started to sprout up throughout rural Alberta, said Lindsay.
