I'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project.8 g/ |* j( K+ |/ I
In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community
+ c4 q. e1 |; q4 X$ `: lEngagement Training.

2 X4 h$ {( Q9 a) Y8 XWe can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,
/ Y; ?/ g! a. C(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood
" d F4 x" G4 n5 g9 ngroups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work
% v; ?( O8 q( T0 ] A3 M# S" Gtogether across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy

Pacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years: q) ?+ H% @+ H8 V$ {5 v
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter$ z" t6 }- [1 c3 k
conflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the0 i& K9 _6 Z9 B1 o( V* w) M1 |) V
international community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:
) |1 N/ L1 m+ jthey come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter9 U# J3 A' D( b2 Y# y& ^; Q! }
Iain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the
+ i3 y1 Z; `3 ]: V6 G" Z( misland and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed7 ~, N+ W. _3 \7 R! ?
international peacekeeping operation.

5 E3 K1 H; h% W2 B! {1 PThis beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their
; i% i: j, G, sown story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people$ r1 E+ f- ?8 o
who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV s& p$ W- P0 Y6 e& X
screens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and4 o/ N ?% k9 ]- }9 Z1 b
Afghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems
4 s% o# z8 Y \ bimprobable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs0 |9 U1 B$ `) O" U# h9 d
and music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!6 \1 X' M$ N5 P& K% y. ]; F
8 O( v) r- A. K0 [4 C9 ^! t8 y# LAccording to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the( ?* i& ] X8 l, G+ l2 l: B
success of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole
; A# }* A$ ?6 F2 S/ Iprocess, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the
* z% g1 E5 a% J7 o3 _2 h1 ahands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.
: Q: |3 F" V. m9 g2 R5 a5 }; B' H5 Q( GAlso, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,
& Z4 J* Y* A; Y% }so we learned to communicate instead. That's where music came in." D2 x7 ]* [. c" n
