I'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project.3 n3 N) C& N( j$ ]$ i- U" ~3 y
In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community! E& v3 o' L' q% i7 v/ \/ k3 }
Engagement Training.+ G2 W0 T" Y- ~

We can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,6 Y# J2 A! T' B( i9 t9 C
(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood; y+ K! J8 O! B3 T8 O0 U
groups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work
. a" M; R& X2 dtogether across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy
* y: S5 W' j# y5 D# R) h9 tCommunities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.% M5 s5 e0 C. V, T: F7 H8 [

Set on the remote Papua New Guinea Island of Bougainville in the South
( G5 j* L/ c6 m) n( F& P( L% `& Q. BPacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years6 W. e+ _5 }8 o, R$ C+ L ~
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter e$ V1 x* c4 L& t8 B' M. R7 O
conflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the
8 D- J1 m; U6 F9 G9 Einternational community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:
_5 @4 q c% I, v. @% u* Athey come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter
. ?8 e+ z, ?" p: L! `; W w, [0 [Iain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the- T; z: ^, V# O- S: M* K
island and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed

$ e/ e' }( M1 W: d6 ], eThis beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their

Afghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems

" B/ R4 A( _0 c( band music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!5 K- w: _# t! D
( f$ `( N7 P( n" \5 x4 tAccording to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the
8 }& T4 W' O- k: J: P2 J9 {success of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole
& `+ Z. [6 l5 }; K- K& Bprocess, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the0 K; i$ _7 G. e) k9 z8 |1 `6 {* ^1 u
hands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.

so we learned to communicate instead. That's where music came in."
