1) Community Dialogue Project Phase 1
* p: P; v" c! u' [) x$ K& C4 HI'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project.
& `, D1 e0 H" m# P& C2 {In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community9 G8 i* U4 P/ x! @
Engagement Training.$ d Q; ~6 @* R0 z
& b: h8 V9 ?+ u' T c% U( c j vWe can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,
/ c6 w( t% b8 \# o! o& p: [+ A(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood; }8 C' Z7 s. I4 T+ L' x. Y4 Y
groups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work8 {2 t, P- f1 w# q3 q
together across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy" k9 \ s/ t( f: I- }
Communities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.2 I" [6 [. y8 m* P6 N2 L% Z

Set on the remote Papua New Guinea Island of Bougainville in the South' F; r; f& o9 | g1 u
Pacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years% ~; h0 s: ?+ L3 F" T: W
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter
6 L- `+ M: Q2 D4 ` D% Z% _conflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the
+ j# b2 V" c n6 r4 Y4 Xinternational community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:
9 }: [+ v: E2 Z# x Kthey come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter9 Q# q1 @9 u8 b4 W* x' x: F5 y7 k
Iain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the# x0 v7 ? d+ L
island and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed$ \3 |0 V- z1 r) ~, o
international peacekeeping operation.9 }8 L. G5 j/ y& F

This beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their. U2 o2 ?. P+ R4 ~
own story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people' L5 W! K9 t: Z& w: X" W
who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV
0 g) Z: H8 l; m% G! U* uscreens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and
6 M$ u+ y! Z% d9 N2 oAfghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems* ?9 V8 C) n* @" R! x3 a
improbable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs

9 Q- Q5 [4 D( qAccording to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the
" F0 d/ g6 \3 o+ Z0 Q* g: Ksuccess of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole# x1 x+ O, C: D7 p
process, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the

Also, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,0 Q2 m. |" d! E9 m- d
