$ ?& }- k5 t3 a" i, IThere are a few questions that English speakers ask at the beginning of a conversation. These questions are simple tools to find out if there are any interesting topics to discuss.
$ h$ t8 Q" Q6 f$ p+ x/ {! s3 p! H, V' J
You've certainly heard these questions, but you might be confused about how to answer. Here's a list of common answers to the questions "How are you?", "How's it going?", "What's up?", and "What's happening?"
/ G- G9 o4 _3 x' p1 c2 m* s- h1 T+ ]
How are you?; a2 S* Z2 e, J0 a
Fine.
4 B: ?, c9 R& k! Z
2 C# j& e1 X# i$ [. ]$ PThis is a simple, straight answer. If you don't say anything else, though, it might be a signal that you don't want to continue the conversation.% l( u3 F# ?: r0 G

/ W; @( u8 P$ T8 j' `7 g6 u1 V# eNot bad.
- r9 V( F9 i& U' K4 @0 a  A+ W6 ^* ^5 h' ~% F9 H
This is a more friendly-sounding answer than "fine".& F4 B* v( _7 I' Y

& b$ o3 G& W) ]# }) E, T9 I3 G4 RFine, thanks.
$ I9 @" a! \6 v* V7 K
4 i( y- H( [$ W. F1 Q0 F2 ^' `( mThis answer is formal. You might answer this way if someone you don't know, like a waiter at a restaurant, asks how you are.3 D8 r7 J) T, p9 v) K* O
/ q. d: H6 i! }8 s* E
Very well, thanks.# n7 {: ]8 \* w6 S1 ]

$ E% i9 q% j0 _3 FA person who likes to be grammatically proper might answer this way. Technically, the question "How...?" should be answered with an adverb. However, a lot of English speakers don't know or care about this. The people who do are "by the books" types who insist on using grammatically correct language.  Q0 x* s1 |5 L& N$ {

5 u: |7 H7 u( H5 pPretty good.
/ G1 f( r( f2 u) h% e8 W" L6 G9 T; d1 s3 p  i6 ?" N8 J1 o" m
If you don't care as much about grammar, you can answer "Good" or "Pretty good". It's more common and much, much more casual.5 p, t1 [3 V4 j. }; w

; U) I/ w! V& Q) D9 AGreat! How are you doing?
  D6 O7 ]) P4 Q, e% ?- I

6 m5 T  k: ]/ P4 T1 f( Y8 BThis is an enthusiastic, excited response. It's always good to ask a question back to the other person if you want to continue the conversation.- D: x# q: S# X6 q7 j8 V5 R

People usually give positive answers to the question "How are you?" If you give a negative answer like this one, it usually means that you want to tell the listener your sad story. So they'll usually ask what's wrong:
" g# _- s$ H; Q  ^4 I8 u! l5 C4 a6 d0 V" D) e. ]6 Y
A: How are you?

This question is similar to "How are you". The answers discussed above all work for "How's it going?" as well.4 c3 ?0 d2 I2 s) o

This question means "What's happening in your life?" But you don't have to answer honestly. If you don't want to start a long conversation, you can use one of these standard replies:2 k% @7 D6 l& F3 T+ O' l$ X7 @1 ~; C

Nothing much.0 N5 ]) ~( a6 d. I  R7 ~7 y( U

我很烦有人这么打招呼,感觉是小流氓和黑人专用问候语,我一般都回应,“我操你妈”
