EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.
% O# F) U, O" b: }- H# |7 j) X, ^+ F% w# `
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.$ |7 @7 o/ @- N* A! \
& t6 \0 U( s! C0 y: YPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
