Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.

Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.( [0 Y2 q) {2 I) D8 S
, a0 x' p% J( t, K& ^, H" z“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.

! _' m2 c' K; R7 Y6 e8 B. D' pThe increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.5 Z7 Z9 p" E0 f% C& u

“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
