Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall! f5 e% t$ C2 E- D8 h
not do any of the following:5 s' `6 r# U: N$ D: e: A; i6 r( |# |
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor0 g7 F7 s$ y0 r0 ~. y. v- i' J9 S
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;+ s( w5 n. ~1 m: N! H7 N
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
- [; y8 _) R6 q( ?$ i% Qvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;7 V$ O% u7 z/ l! S
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,/ {: y! p- v& {# Y6 y
permit another person5 m2 ]) G/ I9 a8 Z
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or% p& m( d! i3 I
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,0 h8 L+ X- W0 [$ J+ q: B) }
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;! U1 w+ Q5 I# ?
(d) give or lend a financial
9 @7 T" L1 e: c, R3 {# C" \/ k! Mresponsibility card or a copy of it
* Z1 j5 @3 `: z0 C% n. i8 ?to a person not entitled to have that financial/ i! d$ o- p" x' V
responsibility card or copy." t, X& C+ d3 L; [7 r
(1.1): o' E3 }1 N, Q- A& w
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
# C+ p$ ?& ?7 {0 ?0 s7 u' iwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of i# F) O' o1 z4 \# W) m
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
" z# }" Y" o, l' y0 h) t(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
4 U) B6 L d# O( @! A% q# ] |2 wnot an insured motor vehicle.) {) ^ ?! k* ?. r' f- F3 W

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this0 I5 p9 X1 l+ l7 o$ y- c% |1 v: E8 j
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

(3)% I) `) g) Q, S
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
4 S X l% Y- p8 D, u8 n, l) Pfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the7 s% E+ \: c7 ~3 E; I- ]+ ^) b
Insurance Act2 ?8 z6 I3 J) o8 D# v1 V4 R
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy8 u3 C3 ^+ d0 H- N3 w4 {) n6 C3 F
outside Alberta.% W6 u% A9 B+ J7 d% _9 Q# j, B0 ~3 g5 h

. `8 B1 u- E! r, TA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection4 v" k' q* U; b) D$ A3 P4 l
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
' p ~: \" j ? b0 }, \(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500* T+ L# e& x* f+ C$ D2 Q
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
) t9 O, c* c" Y3 i7 E7 B. Pimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
