4 c5 f( c) c( V4 C8 A- z) ]
! V5 k) n/ i* U5 h1 K 1. I couldn't care less. $ G! M1 c- l0 n. }9 Q% p
) ^* K4 D: a( t( S5 ]+ ]+ S5 s 这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: ' U! L3 K6 ]6 g5 a
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
' D- D; ?2 p/ T$ [
+ D0 X d% n3 e0 C 你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
2 g" I+ {, s' @$ h
, v" ~! z" w6 a How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) & A4 k z x, m' m+ g5 r ^
5 E" N; @' F0 V, x% s6 d& B' {& C
I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) 5 r9 g; J# U2 w2 z, B7 l" ~
" U8 B1 \& g5 d5 d
( \% Z4 z! k; J
( y! X7 [ x2 _9 ?3 G I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) ) P8 [9 P( f' t: D) t
Yes, you do(care). : F# d# x! z* l0 a) z+ }0 W9 `
8 b+ U: c( ], A 至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
6 L7 o& q" v9 l# K7 {$ c% {! F0 r. _% w' x4 }7 Z: U6 y/ A ]) b
I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) - [0 F" L: \) N. N
/ G2 a q# b" n! Q7 w3 X I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) 0 b( U5 U r& e2 ?2 [
& F! x5 x7 S1 e# b s3 t3 q I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
# q" q$ h- `) [
+ v; g! I6 k3 i) _5 Q8 [2 ?
. ?! \' {! g/ U' y% f8 _% L5 j+ R h+ P
I couldn't be more wrong.
- Q9 ^& ~' a( w6 N x
1 U3 i3 @' [!
; A- E6 p- W; g A& D- [
. I# C% K: Q' w# R/ Q I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) % s5 ?' R6 _9 A, Y+ E0 _- K
8 {0 S+ f" }" X- G7 k4 h
I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
8 b. V, {7 s2 v% p6 p/ d! c
7 D! I! t( k/ X6 P: _6 F6 W 2. No bones about it. $ H! h0 I) g8 q O9 t" L3 z& F
3 h3 S, ~7 L6 O/ W. | 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: + l; {+ d) p4 c
3 J' ^4 Y( P- z: z3 U7 f R His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) ' z. {! |, t( [
) u! I. F" V# J! F/ d: q
Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
% L, F3 E9 U( p- p, i7 b
1 G. h# L( H. n1 W0 I0 h1 N When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
' B$ p$ m8 j7 Z% H( A
# P! _$ t `* ]4 M! k' g No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
2 y2 ^. b& R+ d2 n
2 \ g, C @' D, D 3. take it on me! 0 B8 f, k$ ]" p9 R! J+ P% N
3 O( C3 `9 x3 i$ y$ p) z# H2 u# T
意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: 1 p; }5 I9 ~. |6 t, Z9 J, Z; M
( H" B" c" q8 _, q8 n- Q% A/ o
Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) 7 A# ]) }7 w- S; E
1 }5 y/ f7 D- S
The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
& Y- Z" _0 n0 x+ B' b/ W; H0 J3 \! P; t; b4 [- u
Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
/ F7 }. e0 T: |; x
' Y8 f& A/ O0 u, I 可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。
3 Q( t" j/ E1 c ?( I' M; w
. f# X' c: v+ s6 O+ _1 w (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 5 l6 x" y" _0 K9 n7 L/ N
9 ?7 m9 i# |9 @) i/ {$ ~2 | 4. I am from Missouri. 1 }# V" c. g- |9 q* V5 n
- ?+ Q8 L1 F& e, A6 k" i0 B/ n 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 I- `6 \" M/ p8 z$ `. M9 y {
I, ~* P! l) T A7 I% f, j. r
' O/ p+ y5 r) j% u- n He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. $ m B/ m% m* ~# `1 d5 R
4 s5 u" l/ Y4 @8 V3 A" M Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) 1 O3 [/ ]2 ~4 ]4 d y
) T: e3 [) J$ [
We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. 7 V7 F, ]5 Y9 B& k6 w
8 T% ^% y' B) \5 o" z/ w# S4 \
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith |
