' V) M; _# i/ w/ y
: C. B# p% B: E$ ?+ D        1. I couldn't care less.
/ s4 G' Z" s+ e5 e" G: I
" V5 Q# j- e$ I* k 这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:   v; l4 b/ k3 r' R# X% C
! b: g+ y% x; K4 z4 |
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) 4 R9 H: ^0 @. n5 h9 g. s
- L& [, u/ I6 y( L2 m
  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) , @# W1 N! f4 E, p  z
+ o0 s" o) d5 }, I7 c( S
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) ' p4 W7 W$ N$ [" V
) ]* p7 w7 I* n4 \. C
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) + u# I# Q, w1 v% ^4 b0 }5 }+ {4 B

; M( y# X$ c- p+ E9 U, O7 C, H) ?# _2 I
  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 9 G7 c5 h! ]+ {: ^& l
& l4 p, ~7 ~: Y. {" _1 J
Yes, you do(care). 1 k2 G; ~5 m: t, y0 f
- P7 g8 `, h- v3 G9 a
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
% f& e# n  l6 i7 u
0 R8 T' l5 t, U7 @$ ?+ b  [ I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
( M/ T, l) m  Q* L
2 h( b! k" C2 \. S I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
. s' b  c: ~; P: m0 O7 G1 o; g9 f5 f# t( ]
I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
7 n5 C, l) t- {5 y0 D
4 {& e, y0 a$ ^$ u( V2 w, n( H) s; s5 Z$ N$ X8 T( }" Y
  I couldn't be more wrong.
0 K0 y2 @- P7 J3 d$ ^% U& K7 y
4 D+ c% n) W; G7 z- i% T4 K- c
5 i1 @' ?, C9 W1 Y; p" l& k9 z1 X$ f! }) a# X+ T
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) # @8 s" |7 q( \' ~

$ b( L0 Q0 p0 P- o8 l  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
5 P2 O- J/ |9 V: N9 {2 L) {! K# A+ s
  2. No bones about it. : ^; i/ n" b1 b1 B
" u0 Z+ |: B1 o  n5 W
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: ' b# h- `! M+ m' T

. G6 J: N+ _. u: S+ I( O His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
( M' n; E2 |3 m+ k) E- s
7 p' J, M0 _" x. W* d8 P3 U Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) " Q) S$ K- c% G. M

. ^/ ~1 c1 o6 _1 K When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) / f; Z& ^' ?, D! Y' j& a# N0 B+ n
) ]: f5 ?5 o/ c! g2 Z
No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
/ o" B. d7 j0 S5 ^
/ {$ E$ [' j6 B. Q- M 3. take it on me! - m& t$ w0 `/ {, o0 u: N% V5 a

1 h: c' O, a6 M1 G% E 意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: # t1 G/ ~* W  ], p7 W* q+ S6 y
0 J2 I# R" }, `1 r
Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
" q3 ]- x6 e9 @
/ i$ H2 z; Q' W7 u7 F The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
8 o. m# W$ m" M) s/ T! q- f
1 F! m" ~: E+ J3 n8 g Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) (也许铅笔上刻有名字,做为宣传之用而免费。) 5 l, [' ^; _8 v! x
4 q5 f! w3 W! e* S
  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。
; O$ m+ z6 k- x, G( E8 j% B$ c" [
; {7 ?1 Q1 I4 f% W (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
# l* q  y4 U+ Q2 y9 H) i. H4 ]9 m# t0 E5 y9 e0 n
  4. I am from Missouri. ! ~+ l' y8 C* x) V: ^
) }' ?8 u7 d' p& c: O
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 1 I* q* J+ Y' [) ~. A* g+ a* O% Y
) O' e; y3 y. [& D' {3 J% L% P
$ K: O3 o4 b5 ^# t! F
/ a- k5 `  R6 a: m! [+ U- E" z+ M He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. (他是来自密苏里州,所以不容易说服他。) ( K2 `( ]! B' e% p
3 U: ~9 m; s& D9 S' R, x: o
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) % q: u4 w( i3 g2 x3 l- d/ _4 w( F
. J+ I& o4 X/ K% Y
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. # F( A7 V# z  X" d5 M. h8 t. J" [7 u
0 w( Q9 E; O3 r
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
