Responsibilities and Tasks
/ G* T6 f3 y0 R( Z d/ _0 l7 I( y8 x9 c- C% C/ R) U7 ]* U, F6 t
- Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment
& N: N3 _# J% w( e; u, j9 n9 ]& K- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to determine layout requirements- r6 H' j2 E l' o
- Cut openings for pipe in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines' Q: k' {/ t9 z9 r5 X
- Select type and size of pipe required
. @. F, L3 x& w# s- Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to required shape using hand and power tools1 S# E8 v: r. @& j5 ~6 C
- Weld, braze, cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system
; r% [+ R$ m- \0 e. l5 I4 G- Install supports, valves, piping and control systems
% z/ `% D5 s2 ~- H- Test system for leaks using testing equipment; S+ o- q( J& T5 Z
- Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system
4 v) H7 g1 P4 ~; h$ i! ]3 n- Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system

6 U) W- R, _* v3 [( I; y- Completion of secondary school& V' r5 H3 n! q* u' p2 ]
- Completion of formal Apprenticeship Program of four- to five-years or a combination of over five years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in pipefitting system installation
5 C% h% \, s# ?, p0 |) r/ v, c. k- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals! v+ G$ g5 I# A* i, o+ l4 Y
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence w7 ?* A1 T ?# }
- Pipefitter trade certification is considered an asset @4 {, E& ~. _- U4 p1 x
- Safety tickets are considered an asset
