通往Fort McMurray的铁路在运行!

Railway
•Canadian National - provides rail transport between Fort McMurray and Boyle, through Lac La Biche.
•Can handle full 263,000 pound loading (89 tonnes per standard railcar) and dimensional loads.

The line from Boyle, 150 kilometres north of Edmonton, crosses unstable muskeg over 35 per cent of its length, and needed improved rails, ties, bridges and ballast after years of neglect.

It currently ends just south of Fort McMurray and Foote said CN would be prepared to look at a partnership to build a new road and rail bridge across the Athabasca River to connect with the oilsands projects to the north.

刚开始还不相信通往Fort McMurray的铁路在运行. 直到昨天飞机降落Fort McMurray机场时从飞机上看到一长条的火车在爬行,才知道Fort McMurray原来早通了火车!

在这两条道路上来回无数次, 以前只认为杀手是Hiway 63, 没想到881也毫不逊色!

Tar Sands exploration leads to abnormal downstream cancers?

A long-awaited Alberta Health study into the health of people living downstream from the oilsands, where cancer rates are higher than normal, appears to be finally going ahead.

Concerns were first raised in 2006 about elevated cancer rates in Fort Chipewyan, about 220 kilometres north of Fort McMurray. A provincial government study released in 2009 confirmed the trend and recommended more analysis into possible causes.

是downstream, 不是Fort McMurray. 原因应该不是油沙吧.

开发Oil Sands对谁最有好处?

According to a recent report by the environmentalist group ForestEthics Advocacy, 71% of oilsands production is owned by non-Canadian shareholders, with foreign-headquartered companies controlling 24% of the sector's production. The group concludes that Canadians benefit very little from the industry's production on account of this high degree of foreign ownership.

There is no doubt that foreigners benefit from their investment in Canada. If they didn't, why would they invest here? But they don't benefit at our expense. The important thing to recognize is that Canadians also benefit from foreign investment.

你能感觉到的是, 98%的Oil Sands Managers是Caucasian!
