it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:

size % C6 Y. ], L0 W8 S' {! x1 ~' v4 y

cut6 P) l) P: z/ O
$ ^, f& G: n2 a+ i8 x0 W
if you want a very high clarity and colour, then $10K CAD may only get you a 0.5 ct diamond if you don't care as much about colour and clarity, then you can easily get a 1.0 ct or bigger ring. typically, girls care more about the clarity and size.

' W$ H9 l- x/ T: `9 Rthe solitary princess diamond is the most popular style for an engagement ring. solitaty means a single large diamond (not a whole bunch of small diamonds or dusts but with the total weight added to a 1.0 ct) and princess means it's cut into a round shape on top (not square or oval shape)! m' Y; g6 `0 o% B% H2 f
