T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 5 F5 e& ]* `6 y; `, x- k: N, ?
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering ( q& y9 B/ I& I3 [( D0 x
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ) n$ {! Y1 n/ @2 L% V
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
, L! m# K' h0 Band  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.
! ^3 d4 F* d$ @, w: i; @: k, s0 [4 M' R* E/ t

What will take place in the sessions?' k) W% n* X/ U# F# h: g& f' S
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.$ H+ y0 ^+ j0 {; k- I7 x& ^. A

( R2 `: L7 [! Z( V# oThese activities will enable youth to:
( c6 [" |- `* X6 c$ v% n7 ]2 z/ I2 p Explore personal interests in arts and recreation5 p2 J" J$ K5 L
 Learn how to access community services and programs
+ w( L/ B& c% L/ V7 `( x Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
7 |5 J7 y; Y' K* ?* [9 x Identify personal leadership strengths …) Q/ [7 Q5 u- B

Program Schedule:: w' d% L/ i" D2 A' V$ b( d: z4 E
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
! \! i' e* R! D6 R5 V- i* |* KSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily8 |& O3 S2 E+ B4 E
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily- g8 h' {. b" ?  @6 {

Who can participate?9 l' Q2 v$ h+ v4 V# s* I' I$ [
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
3 i! a4 A  A# D8 S* W* fIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group./ M* a1 ^4 ^  f) s

# q/ o' K$ D1 C0 e" c3 j
Volunteer’s Duties:" V$ I- i) K: q  V" T5 k! U
; c; }; r5 u/ ]3 G+ j& D0 M% C
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies $ Z& Z- g& R6 d
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
+ i# ?# J1 ?- `# u) E Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
/ N! w5 v2 g5 Q) k- u; x6 V3 M Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
6 F8 j. w9 c% B2 ?9 U7 Z3 i Research activities related to the sessions’ topic1 F- n8 [+ z, [  i4 G9 }
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
6 p8 U6 m! c( i+ ?/ L0 ^ Assist in program planning
* W5 w. u/ M8 R3 R Be a role model  R7 K" ^7 _3 e) M9 L  {9 l

, |2 H. K5 ?0 O5 a) |  t# \3 c, EVolunteer Commitment:
7 B1 F$ U6 e" r, s  n2 S + r6 ~9 \/ ?0 D3 z  U0 o2 W
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
  v+ ?7 }% M# W One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
6 r3 V; b0 I/ ]& r. }7 {( A1 K5 j, O( V0 c
Attitude/Skills Requirements:
) K8 q2 L, J  V: z, }
: A) M7 o( N3 e; m; K8 K Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
+ {( S0 n# l: u# [: _2 ~( t! b+ X Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
. n* T( e4 x* H' z1 f A team player
% _4 I6 H2 ^( @9 n Able to work independently with minimum supervision
6 U8 D9 r% S7 `6 j- { Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families( z. a0 x$ i5 B& D: w% M
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
, I1 l; c: \' D& H
