T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 1 k: H$ [0 @; M
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering ! r# I2 _' W: i: E, U/ Z; L, N
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ( g. ]- G* ?0 B. N$ @3 ?4 o
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 8 {% D7 z7 i% t7 v2 _8 n. d
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.9 G6 v/ [/ k% T: p7 n

9 U' H6 _7 v1 uWhat will take place in the sessions?
+ S/ d4 A! l6 y" _2 ZEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.- k! \( F1 K6 j% H

* E3 k0 b3 m, C  aThese activities will enable youth to:& l7 i$ f$ g) `. v
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation; b+ ]/ _' S$ H4 p6 V3 [# n
 Learn how to access community services and programs
' W( h" Z5 G- V) t7 p Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills* C6 g9 G/ Z: Z9 z' m1 O
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.: l/ X( i( A: I
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
; L" J  Y* W+ f% [                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily% m$ C1 G/ C: l% r6 @$ m7 P

Who can participate?( c+ [6 s! D6 `) c6 N
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.. A/ H/ |# }  A$ j
0 s% c9 ]6 `, u6 K3 t
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
! }: Q; u% d" W2 N# L( x. u$ XIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.
( W0 x# j6 ~5 h; f6 c
! h! M; b5 c+ }" P2 y) g( V; K; |8 o4 Z
Volunteer’s Duties:
& G. ^- v+ \7 j' K7 j/ R
* C: F- _) z: O, N( G, F Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies ' Q! Y* A& R' J/ k, T" L
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
# O# ~7 {# }/ x, [9 y- J7 a# G9 x Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
& N% y" c  O; A8 {. A, O Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
7 U6 ^- x' _8 e" E- D% ~, W Research activities related to the sessions’ topic. Y4 f7 d: H( ?5 p& j5 {
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips$ B6 }/ K$ s8 ~( R# b1 ^/ o6 j
 Assist in program planning; [* M2 W) u! ?' o
 Be a role model+ e1 ~7 ?2 P8 K( K

% |) g+ ?8 f+ U# S: g6 k2 g" bVolunteer Commitment:
3 I/ g; a+ b% s& z
4 M2 i4 [* E, R( ^ On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years); o2 O" l& _0 L$ f2 s% Z! m* ?
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
& n9 O  G1 G: }& G. n3 I
/ n! v% {5 T7 @( v7 M9 l$ X, }Attitude/Skills Requirements:

. o+ Y2 J% }' o0 D Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator( j. g9 a  J- e' f2 S' k
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program1 ^2 p9 E6 K. V6 P% K9 ^
 A team player
1 r1 L3 @3 {7 s" ?5 j Able to work independently with minimum supervision
: R9 v9 v8 m/ y2 M+ ?3 v Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families( T5 H5 n# K/ j
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk' G* [; A+ ]+ s) u, {0 K
