T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip ! E* k0 l/ ^( W* S1 k
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
8 S7 \. K2 |  ]) ~6 Fopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on & Y( ^6 j% w5 u" t5 L2 H5 B5 L
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 8 P2 L3 H9 _- E- w2 V0 _) K
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.) K7 }# s+ K3 T* x5 v% \7 C+ o6 @

Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.8 B; z" H* n) H+ u  x2 U( s

 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
2 t) O. @) ^; m2 u3 k4 C3 h Learn how to access community services and programs* Y6 S2 e: W+ y! g7 ^
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
/ m* T" |/ h/ Y: Q# O# eSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily( D3 H5 t( N1 I2 \. V
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

7 V! u0 p" q$ H5 O4 uWho can participate?
: i1 A( j. v9 wAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.# [5 [( q0 A' e

" w: q0 c2 u( r; G& ]What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
  p5 F8 X  }5 |1 w7 kIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

; m/ M3 s. i/ W7 t6 P0 k  ~; `; G% j1 d) ?% @4 ?
Volunteer’s Duties:' `1 Z& D) Y  g+ f2 l

- N" }( `# L' z Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies ( V) v/ V! _8 H
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
) _) s: ~3 P8 N7 l) A' e* \' ]' R Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities* ?: n6 c& M. G9 O" _- p! L
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions9 L+ p$ P5 b+ S8 W" Z
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic7 J- t  H# n: i. j
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips2 i. R( ~+ q0 e
 Assist in program planning; x" v1 l2 f$ @) Z, V0 E+ J& a) @( G
 Be a role model6 _7 W9 u1 \2 k9 k1 U

4 u( v. N9 G3 `. g) gVolunteer Commitment:
, h1 M2 k  ?7 i3 h$ E( S6 F
4 F6 _6 O4 Y( u On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years), z. @6 y0 M6 s, c: _! V4 q; D
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer3 F% ^+ U1 v$ f7 ?& g9 o

. c3 N/ G4 w9 S& BAttitude/Skills Requirements:/ {4 v# p# F  S+ ~
# a6 i% M" t- U+ n5 g  \
 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
; p1 R5 k8 h! l* G% l% i. X/ j$ B5 V Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program' C8 ~  b3 c  ^2 `8 C4 G
 A team player. s, Q/ L- u: h- n& p
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
1 r. ^9 j) b7 p Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
2 c  T6 s& U3 d2 @* s% v/ ]2 V3 h7 h Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
/ o3 y+ F0 T0 D! V7 L( [9 M5 `" ~" m" L% ?" f
