T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
4 Y# s# `4 N7 x! M9 u* {Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering ; F" k/ h; \  Y! U3 D) O# c
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 0 E- e: A1 g4 n8 ?3 ]. J8 k( b7 \% R
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
( z; o; m( C6 `  b0 A1 c+ Mand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

: A0 O  G3 n. R. r. a2 ~Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

1 k5 n7 h8 ?& K6 ]7 H& P5 hThese activities will enable youth to:! b( o& C7 o- j1 X( u9 ^5 r! {
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
1 g, `! f% `5 h0 ~ Learn how to access community services and programs2 S7 B( q4 P+ B
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
& _) Z* \$ @1 _, X+ K; v" u$ k8 E* e Identify personal leadership strengths …( h) A2 ~3 `. q. Q: h: l

Program Schedule:
5 A; ?$ r! c* e) B' x/ fRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.! z) m6 m) L" V3 B) b' v$ H# ^
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
. [) Y- U' q2 I% @) I" h                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily1 M- w; \2 C' l( b- J1 E) }6 C

! t9 ~: _4 G/ u" Q$ TWho can participate?
4 c8 j9 I3 ]7 d2 l, X9 jAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.4 j4 @! {( y- A
( _, G" {+ D! K8 B( R, Z
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?- w" i: N/ Q( L4 {
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.
4 J! B: c& ]; Z, Q

( M1 D* v. o1 L/ Y, W$ \Volunteer’s Duties:7 G$ J. G$ V! }: l& O# s
' q& t& J, O: R4 ~
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
4 g7 w4 l8 ~6 T8 l% B7 y Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
! }. i4 _% |7 o; Y8 Q Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
7 _6 `+ g4 a; ]+ v1 g Facilitate or assist in small group discussions- B- w# ^7 v& l5 d" m
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
- B( D8 t4 i) T. I7 r Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
" C+ Z8 K; \- M. e6 f, l Assist in program planning
/ F1 i( Q% V& F$ F. i; l1 x0 X Be a role model4 s0 Z( J0 ?7 U) y
+ R) J1 `( M5 p2 ^7 @/ N8 `
Volunteer Commitment:: M$ f. ~) `4 V7 E

% y' Y, s- T/ H3 t4 S On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
9 O' J6 z. o8 F, E: b One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer% A/ K7 |6 Z, p$ K/ v
, G, g; ]5 q( W5 |6 z) ]

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
& J+ \' h; L1 m4 y  P Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program0 }4 W& Z/ @" J$ t* [
 A team player
+ C* C, e8 z- T Able to work independently with minimum supervision) y8 U- n, `' @  @9 C( N1 V  H
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families0 I, E7 v$ d  T6 P/ g
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk0 k: a' `3 {+ V; R/ H1 ^' j- q; A
