T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
5 o; w3 V# E! |Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 7 E0 r" b0 Y* P9 r9 i- H+ r
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
2 _: ]9 v5 s& n, t! O: n8 }8 t  sinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 5 |# m0 O6 x/ O9 e3 C
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.; F6 P' a- Y5 C& o  p5 a: F

Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.6 a8 g' I: ]( `8 d3 |/ w  D( r- n

 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation; o! R9 P  {5 m$ |
 Learn how to access community services and programs

 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Program Schedule:/ l  M* w7 w$ ^
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
$ I6 Q1 f: h9 PSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily8 w# T  n1 o7 q$ W8 G
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily* d7 H9 Z' H$ l9 N9 J

; t3 K* s- D0 j: X$ E5 U6 I7 DWho can participate?1 \$ `+ D& q- G4 L
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
9 W- \8 \0 }7 v1 S' T7 T$ s4 v
6 \3 _& \1 X* [* {! Z. bWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
1 ]2 _# t2 ~& W7 _& ?7 iIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.! ]+ H( K" k+ C, ^- N" t

0 _0 U$ o# s8 k- K" Y6 g: {5 d$ o: x4 O: H. ?9 p  [7 ~+ K; a7 U& k
Volunteer’s Duties:
" p9 k: ]' d8 ^8 J$ D
4 b" z# f4 o; @ Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies . P6 V  Q, S2 _6 K
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development 0 `$ d! D) u' ], W7 T1 }3 M
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
# Z/ J. ^6 M5 t8 Q9 Y4 U) t Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
0 j+ N% T, X, J Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
2 j- Q+ w3 h) w; {+ n/ A# \  l Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips) [' d6 u5 N  E& T+ u: E" T
 Assist in program planning) b* D4 i3 j2 t+ C+ J6 H0 Y5 y; P; D4 p
 Be a role model# u+ W& `7 L" Y; ~5 C
+ C  M3 [" h4 t3 x
Volunteer Commitment:$ s' i& O9 C& ]& Y# ^5 e

, @" t4 a- D6 C2 l$ \/ ? On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
; @% ~% T1 g* ^. ~3 i One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
8 ]$ V; X6 r! k5 M5 O) a3 S" Z& j4 g: j7 \/ m
Attitude/Skills Requirements:

" N; O: v4 p8 g8 p3 a Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator# `3 R1 u9 M0 E- f% r7 z
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program" G, A3 Y( w% x( U5 {
 A team player! y) B, Q8 E- z$ k: |1 D% X+ V
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
% {. \; a* x/ X" S0 k Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families( g0 Z( e% F1 z. m& t
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
