Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
2 I3 Y5 m3 k, N8 m% F/ PProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
9 {9 t- ]0 o0 x5 L0 l# e/ M7 J. b( FAssembling and starting engines
0 h/ @  P& C3 H' h: C4 {! BDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned


Good eye-hand coordination
% ~0 q! i  l. ~/ a0 sFrequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds
) O- z! S: C4 N0 E2 |3 FOccasionally lifting weights up to 100 pounds
. ^. |) C4 |: D2 Z* `) C- C, HPhysical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions

Working shifts, sometimes away from home
Basic technical knowledge of diesel
Welding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
+ z! V( ], c1 q8 GMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
4 g, Q% o$ [( c9 Q( W% MVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
