service providers.

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are

Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
* Y, Q! U8 C9 z" Y! \' F! Z+ Mcarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
- T& ~: U7 B! hguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and3 T9 u! i) G5 ^$ d4 G, _
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing8 y6 Z! W; O. |$ ^1 y( K* Z$ W
market forces to prevail.

9 ]% _ V. f8 P8 H& A/ hThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has) I/ x" V* P( ? o |
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large2 Y" ?, H. e% u$ V. G0 I6 t% m
number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
( Q( {' v8 j8 ~+ Y* _. _4 Fline with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages2 Z6 g: e5 \, m0 u+ y
competition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that4 [- N5 D+ E7 u
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
