Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
4 [2 w, F; q& @an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
& \7 y& m! n1 B2 K H# s. oinnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops8 D( D4 q. c& y' c& g
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
/ s3 E! ^1 O9 T# ~) f ?# ncarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
# M6 T5 A0 H' Y- \4 M. E" ~guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and3 Y/ S# M) d; c
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
! b- R9 [; p3 v- Ymarket forces to prevail. 4 |- w* e7 U8 T+ A. S# ~

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has" S; K e6 q; ?" N8 _
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large
( ~. }# k' d( }$ W/ }number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

When the CRTC reaches a final decision following its consultations, the

1 M7 ^8 `5 b# f, @6 ]line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages

any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
